BYU's Jimmer Fredette - ESPN

I usually respect Reilly, but I think this kind of makes him look like an idiot. He hammers Jimmer for not being spectacular in the one game he watched Fredette. Fredette played his heart out and had nothing left in the tank for OT. In regulation he scored 32 at 42% (and was never open) with 4 TO's. The Jimmerettes scored 36 at 34% (and were frequently open).

He thinks he can't be a good pro because of his D?

(1) nobody plays D in the NBA
(2) defense can be taught
(3) Jimmer couldn't afford too much defensive effort, because BYU needs him 40 minutes every night on the offensive end

Jimmer can be solid in the NBA. He could be like Stephen Curry, both great shooters with great range.

Excellent points on your part. Jimmer pretty much was playing against 3 guys most of the night and the Jimmerettes didn't do much to get open so he could dump the ball to them.

I like O'Reilly but when it comes to BB, he should stick to calling out the bad politicians and snake judges.

i watched him play in the tournament. he's good but i can't see him doing anything professionally. It's a biased opinion, but i think Chris Lofton (before he got sick) was better.

Who knows what kind of player Lofton could have been his senior year? Jimmer is better at getting to the basket, but Lofton was unstoppable too. I think Lofton is good enough for the NBA and would be there if he had made a better show of his senior season.

I can't remember many players who can basically carry a team to a 30-4 record. He makes shots that others won't even try. He'll play pro somewhere.

it still kills me that he got sick. he definitely was my favorite to watch

Overall jimmer is better, but diebler is the better shooter easily.

Jimmer shot 40% from 3 pt this year and was never open. He shot 42% from 3 pt last year before teams decided to double team him 25 feet out. Diebler shot 42% last year and 50% this year with Sullinger. Imagine what Jimmer could have done with a guy that commands double teams in the post?

Really? Because I'm willing to bet BYU would still be alive if Jimmer was playing alongside Sullinger.

You and your constant what ifs. You're post is about being a pro, not a college teammate. Diebler > Jimmer as a pro prospect.

They've got Jimmer going 10th and Diebler going last.

2011 Mock Draft | NBADraft.net

They've got Jimmer at the 20 spot and can't look below that without INsider to see where Diebler is.

Chad Ford's Top 100 - ESPN

They've got Jimmer at 13th and no Diebler

Tell Tony Allen that no one plays D in the NBA.

Once upon a time (early 2000s maybe?) Reilly didn't mail in columns like this one and consistently turn in embarrassingly terrible work. Unfortunately, he does now.

(1) you can't be serious
(2) length and athleticism can't

(1) There are about 10 shut down defenders in the NBA and even they have a hard time shutting people down. The NBA is all about offense and team D.
(2) He isn't long, but he is athletic enough to play defense in the NBA. He's not going to stop Rondo from getting to the basket, but nobody does.

The point is as long as you can score, nobody cares about your D. There are very few guards that make it in the NBA because of their defense.
