Rematch with Xavier

It depends on how they finish the regular season more than anything.

If we beat a top 25 Iowa team and they end up losing 15 games, it doesn't mean much. If we beat an unranked Xavier and they end up in the top 25, it will be more beneficial.

Yeah, I guess that is true.

What would be more beneficial for us you think (resume' wise)? Beating a top 25 Iowa team on a neutral floor or a revenge win over Xavier on a neutral floor?

You see Xavier will not have had enough time to move into the top 25 if they did beat Iowa is what kind of sucks. I'm inclined to believe that the win over Iowa would look better.

Xavier could go on to be top 25 though, Wichita wasn't top 25 when we beat them last year either, but they went on to be.

I'm for moving the rpi needle now, because it's going to be harder to move when we get into conference play.
Xavier is currently in the 30s and Iowa in the 80s.
Move er now!

Right now it looks better if we beat Iowa...but in the long run it will look better if we beat Xavier IMO.

wow, certainly didn't know that. Only frustrating thing is that the selection committee has certainly seemed to de-emphasize RPI that last few years when you consider the last few teams they have put in and the teams they have left out.

That's true, but getting it into the ballpark will be harder once we get into conference play. Unless of course we're going to win consistently on the road.

That's how I look at it too. A win vs Xavier means that they beat a top-25 team (Iowa) and lessens the negative perception of our season-opening loss to them. A revenge win against them at full-strength two weeks later will also show early season improvement to satisfy selection committee members, and hopefully, our most critical fans that will justly question why Martin's teams can't make adjustments early in the season.

For Martin, he could do a lot of goodwill within his own fanbase by showing he can/will adjust his style by beating a team that really had their way with his own for the majority of the first meeting.

I'll second that.

Does anyone get AXS tv, which is airing the early games? I think I may not get this on Comcast.

Take a look at the bracket. If we beat Utep and Xavier beats Iowa, then we get our early season rematch with Xavier on a neutral site. I like our chances at revenge. I think our shooting woes from that season opener will subside.

Actually, our guys shot pretty well after the dry spell early, ending up better than 42% for the game from the field and from beyond the three point line. Only shooting free throws at 37% was the difference in the final score though. Other than that, they couldn't stop Xavier's inside game with Stokes and Maymon in foul trouble.
