What a thug

Omar Payne Watch:

You remember the cheap shot artist that about rearranged Fulkerson's face in the SEC Tournament quarterfinal? His team Illinois played Purdue in a Martin Luther King Day matinee and he absolutely sucker elbowed Purdue's Trevion Williams which drew a flagrant one foul. Payne is a complete cheap shot artist. It's a disgrace that the NCAA did nothing to this kid last year and Williams absolutely paid the price for the NCAA's Malfeasance. He's lucky it wasn't worse. Payne is an empowered clown. It sure would've been nice if Tennessee's Head coach or AD would've fought for Fulkerson last year. Payne's cheap shot ended up taking his team out of the game momentarily. Link

Payne has issues, pretty sure he was proud he hurt Fulk last year and then someone within their program told him he had to try to save face. Regardless he needs to be removed from the game until he’s gone through some counseling or something and has been cleared by them.

I noticed that Vescovi was the target of a lot of rough play last night. Certainly not all of it (KC got his share too). Low class of Vandy to play that way.

I like SV, but he isn't a target or victim. Every game he is involved in something. He's swinging his elbows to clear space or pushing off. I get why he does it because of his lack of athleticism but he's not a victim.

Did you watch the game last night. He got pushed all over the court without fouls being called. He touched someone and they called a foul on him.

I agree they let more go against him last night than they let him get away with. However, SV definitely does give it as good as he gets it most of the time. I’ve been surprised he hasn’t got called for one of his elbows yet. He’s scrappy and doesn’t back down from anyone, but he uses those elbows a lot to clear space for himself. They aren’t cheap shots like what Payne does, but surprised he hasn’t been called for it more.

There is some truth to this. He is a dog, and plays physical, mostly because he has to like you said.

But the ticky tack fouls they called on him last night were lame

I couldn't remember what happened so I pulled it up on Youtube - it's the first hit if you search for "Omar Payne."

The real jewel in this situation is how the coaches were patting him on the shoulder and backside as he was escorted out of the game. And, a water girl ran him down to squirt water in his mouth. Nice. Act like a criminal and get treated like a king. Good stuff.

Payne wouldn't do this if someone would just deck him. I'm not real sure why someone hasn't done this.
Did you come up in the era of when someone picks on you it was somewhat expected for you to defend yourself? Or did you come up during the era of fighting is equally as bad for both parties involved and you both will be suspended from school?

I would guess the first era from your comment about Payne

He gets his share of attention every game and doesn’t take crap from anyone, which I respect. Last night was a different level however

Def the first era and I never plan on changing that.

It's not spoken about often, but there are quite a few black players, harboring racist ideas, who do not like being shown up by talented white players.

I think there may be some truth to this. Dennis Rodman and Isiah Thomas said that Larry Bird would be just another guy in the NBA if he were black. They said this even after Bird and the Celtics had just beaten them in the Eastern Conference Finals while he scored 36, 35, and 37 points in games 5-7. I’m sorry but that’s not “just another guy” no matter if you are black, white, brown, yellow, purple, whatever. Sports are suppose to be about competing for the love of the game, but unfortunately there are some out there that like to create issues whenever something doesn’t go the way they were expecting it to go.

Clearly becoming after last night’s game Stackhouse = Hardaway

Only difference is Stackhouse stands up and coaches his team and they do what he asks of them, even if he asks them to do something stupid like fouling Ziegler last night. Penny just stands on the sideline casually and tells his team in his soft spoken voice to play hard.
