Did you come up in the era of when someone picks on you it was somewhat expected for you to defend yourself? Or did you come up during the era of fighting is equally as bad for both parties involved and you both will be suspended from school?
I would guess the first era from your comment about Payne
Yep. Booker T. Washington spoke often about them.I think there may be some truth to this. Dennis Rodman and Isiah Thomas said that Larry Bird would be just another guy in the NBA if he were black. They said this even after Bird and the Celtics had just beaten them in the Eastern Conference Finals while he scored 36, 35, and 37 points in games 5-7. I’m sorry but that’s not “just another guy” no matter if you are black, white, brown, yellow, purple, whatever. Sports are suppose to be about competing for the love of the game, but unfortunately there are some out there that like to create issues whenever something doesn’t go the way they were expecting it to go.
I couldn't remember what happened so I pulled it up on Youtube - it's the first hit if you search for "Omar Payne."
The real jewel in this situation is how the coaches were patting him on the shoulder and backside as he was escorted out of the game. And, a water girl ran him down to squirt water in his mouth. Nice. Act like a criminal and get treated like a king. Good stuff.
