Remember that time Tennessee had all those players transfer out...

I was under the impression the McDonald’s Bag Kids were asked to leave. Only then did their moral compasses lead them to historically ethical Alabama and Oklahoma, where they played for nothing more than scholarships and school pride

Barron was/is a restless sole. Hasn't he been to 4 different teams?
Depends on whether you count being on the field as being with a team. 😂 He’s been on the field for two I think. Committed to Ole Miss then bounced practiced with Louisville then bounced.

Which leads to the ultimate question "Why were they recruited?" "Were they "projects" or "misfires"?
Of your two choices, " misfires" is probably more accurate. It's not an exact science, and tough to predict how every athlete will develop. For example, Peyton Manning and Harrison Bailey were similar prospects coming out of high school.

Baron had a pretty solid year for Miami. Say what you will but Pearce was much more effective with Baron on the field at the same time imho.
Baron is good. No way he should be paid Pearce money tho, and that’s what he wants. He will always be a solid number 2 option on the dline but if he’s your number one you ain’t elite on the edge.

The recruiting world keeps changing and the portal as many players are finding out is a two edged sword. Yes, you can transfer to greener pastures as you define it, but the NIL and roster spot are one year deals that can be withdrawn if you don't perform. Another thing that just happened is revenue sharing which will give schools that had little or no NIL money enough money to keep their very best players. So you won't see proven stars in the portal nearly as much as before. The real losers in all this will be HS kids. Not as many roster spots for them and no ability to walk-on and earn your roster spot.

The one item that no one talks about is that I think teams/coaches are also encouraging players to transfer that aren't living up to standards to free up spots on the roster. I think this has happened at Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, etc. It is no a means to get rid of busts.

Well the goal is too keep good players. I wouldn’t say anyone good left..
Do you call it left if you are told we love what you are doing but we have you bracketed as depth for the foreseeable future. I hear about 60% of players are nudged out the door in the college football portal world and some are told we are going in a different direction. Scholarships are year to year.

...back in 2020 when Coach Cornbread dropped his drawers and McDonald's bag and all of the four and five-star rated Tennessee players hit the portal? I'm I wrong or wasn't the number something like 26 players (and many of the four and five-stars?)

Man, those were some depressing times. I saw the article today from ESPN raking the top 75 players in the Transfer Portal.

Not. One. Single. Tennessee Player. On the list.

I know they have some gaps to fill, but it feels like Heupel is still building a great culture in Knoxville.
We lost all those guys and we were immediately better when Heup took over the next year. Looking back on it it’s pretty funny

IMO what left can be replaced fairly easy you may think their high level receivers that's fair, I wish them well, but in other words what I saw was pedestrian some of that was due to injuries etc. but Ls & Ws do not qualify for that. Schollys are year to year and money is being spent, hopefully Matthews pans out as billed and Staley makes the next step. It will be interesting to see the starters first game. I believe it will be at least equal and ultimately better than 2024 group. We are in a much better place at Tight End Kistleman & Nico have a great chemistry and I look for Ethan Davis to take that next step. GBO

You are counting freshman who are not on campus
Staley, brazz where it…. Matthew’s came back and we got Jefferson
That’s 4 total now… 2 weeks ago there were TWO WRS ON THE ROSTER
I bet there is a walk on that could play every team seems to have them. But yes the freshman coming in are replacements. The only one I hate that left was Squirrel. He could have had a good season. Also don't forget Boo he may be a better wr and he may be the Heisman if he plays both sides and returns.
