UCF fans were happy to get Malzahn because they were fed up with Heup? I just looked at their coaching records at UCF

Heup was 28-8
Gus 18-9 after tonight he'll be double digit losses

Something else I didn't know until looking was that Heup had a better winning percentage than Frost at UCF.

You think they miss him yet?

I always thought it was funny that they believed Heupel was a poor coach and regressing. They got spoiled.

The UCF fan reaction when we hired Heup and they grabbed Gus was so over the top and obnoxious that I was rooting pretty hard for GaTech (and literally every other team they play.)

You'd think they swapped out Nebraska Scott Frost for Saban when the coaching carousel was going around but, as another poster said, self-crowned Natty's do set expectations a bit high....

Two things, 1. What was Malzahn’s record this year compared to last year. I ask because they joined the Big 12 this season. 2. Everyone forgets Heupel had a lot of starters sit out the Covid year.

Overall, I still say Malzahn is a good hire for UCF. Still glad Heupel is at Tennessee.

I’d take Heupel any day over Gus but I agree Gus is a good hire for UCF.

UCF was 9-5 in the 2022 season.

I think UCF plays Deion 1st or 2nd B-12 game. Deion starts off with FCS North Dakota. That conference will be the bottom of P4. I guess Oregon State & Wash State will go to Mountain West

You need to compare the records when UCF was in the same league. They went B12 this year.
Outside Heupel 1st season, (8-0) they BOTH literally went 6-2 and 5-3 in their conferences.

When Heupel left UFC, UFC fans acted like a boy after he got dumped by his girlfriend. I can remember my buddy saying "I am glad she is gone, she wasn't that good anyway". I knew better than that. But, you can't help trying to save face.

To be fair, most fan bases do that. Many Vol fans did it after Kiffin left and then talked up Dooley as being the better and more stable solution. I think it’s part of our nature to convince ourselves that we are better off.

I will admit i was worried about Huepel hire who regressed there every year after taking over unbeaten team from Frost. I would have been happier at that point to get Malzhan, a SEC guy who beat Nick few times.
I was wrong.
