Report: Weiner pulls out

Politicians can lie about serious things like wars all they want, but when one person lies about pictures of his dick on the internet he has to fess up and resign? Bull****.

Appears you're struggling with the point.

Pure ego and hubris.

In his mind's eye, everyone should feel sorry for him that he goofed and has to give up his seat. What he doesn't realize is that everyone, supporters and opponents, believes he brought it all on himself, especially the lying afterwards to cover.

Incidentally, how does one get the email or text message phone number for a top flight porn star? Gives me some ideas ....

the porn star has Gloria Allred, representing her now

Nope. I get it, this just isn't a great example.

How? You don't get to rant and rave through blatant lies and survive it. Obama hasn't told the truth twice in his life, but he retains some level of deniability and that's why he isn't resigning, while Weiner is.

First off I've never called for his resignation but I think it's the right thing to do.

Second, I really don't think the subject matter is relevant. You do something wrong, cover it up, blame others and lie to everyone - call me crazy but I question your qualifications for representative public service.

Exactly. Politicians lie daily but when they get into full on cover-up mode and try to hang things on others even when busted then you have to question how far they will go.

Weiner had to know that tons of evidence was out there and would come to the surface yet he went gonzo on the lie. Definitely makes me question his judgement.

I don't think Clinton should have been impeached. However once he lied under oath he definitely faces the consequences like losing a law license etc.

Weiner lied and he's paying the price. It probably wouldn't be as bad if he would of stood up straight and admitted that he gets aroused by pictures of nude women.

This is the point.
You can agree or disagree on whether or not what he did was a big deal and that will differ with people. Its obvious he knew it was enough to ruin his career and thought he could lie and persuade others to and save it.

what happens to the cash he raised for reelection?

he has to forfeit it - not sure if it is returned to donors or disposed of in some other way.

He continues to receive free HC and is eligible for his pension beginning at age 55 (est. 36K annually for life)

He was in Congress for 12 years. Not a bad gig. If he had 20 years in he could begin drawing his pension at 50 (est. 59K annually for life)

Ditto. We just went through this with pearl, Ohio state with tressel... It wasn't the lie, it was the cover up.

Now weiner didn't break any laws that I'm aware of, he just proved to be a monumental scum bag. If he had refused to resign, I wouldnt have thought more highly of him, but he would have been within his right.

I wonder if he will be able to save his marriage. His wife was beautiful. It's kind of hard watching somone lose everything like that.

Weiner has created a gaping hole in his wake. At this point his world looks like a giant mushroom cloud.

I think the best thing Weiner can do is to lay low.

Unfortunately, this very well may be just the tip.
