Rest In Peace

What a horrible way to go, including "person on fire" as part of the original report. Very sorry for the loss by both families.

My dad was chief of surgery at the Army hospital in Hawaii during the late 60's-early 70's. and he told me then that the #1 source of his trauma patients was those injured in Vietnam, and the #2 source was off-duty soldiers (generally in Hawaii) who wrecked their motorcycles.

I know they're great fun and all, but holy cow, the consequences... (especially for young guys in their early 20's who haven't yet learned how to ride smart).

I had a Harley from November of 73 until June of 83. For me the biggest threat was morons in cars. They almost crashed me multiple times doing dumbass crap.

Other than a few revvers/ weavers in and out of lanes on the interstate, I never really felt that the riders were generally at fault.

It's just that they paid the big penalties.

It's like I told my daughters in their teens and beyond: it's all very nice to know that the law is on your side, but in the end, the goal should probably be to not get raped/ killed, even if you're technically in the right.

Gosh I wasn't even born yet in '73
