In the early ‘80s, the Braves had removed Chief Noc-a-Homa’s tee pee from the left field seats. After doing his pregame ritual, he would wander the stands, greeting fans all over the stadium. I was at a game on my birthday, seated in section 307 of the old Atlanta Fulton County Stadium. The Chief was moving through the section, stepping on the arm rests of the seats. When he reached us, one of my companions shouted to him that it was my birthday. He paused, looked me in the eyes and said, “Happy birthday to you, man!”
