Yeah, we can hand him a framed jersey at midfield, along with a sixpack.

For those who don't remember, Johnny Majors left his blood, sweat and tears on the field for us as one of the best players in the nation. In fact, had it not been for the national sports media's unbelievable and undeserved prejudice for a very mediocre and losing Notre Dame football team, Johnny would have been the Heisman Trophy winner.

Johnny also left his blood, sweat and tears on the field for us as our Head Coach. He labored against terrible odds and brought our then miserable program back from its position as one of the worst in the SEC to one of respectability. :gun:

Many of you seem to hate Coaches Battle, Dickie, Majors, Fulmer, Wyatt, Thomas, and possibly even Neyland. I am sick and tired of ne'er do wells running down everyone who has ever been associated with our Vols. Why in God's great name do some of you call yourself Vol Fans. With friends like some of you, our football program doesn't need any enemies. :thefinger: :thefinger: :thefinger: :thefinger:

Go Vols beat the Commode Doors!!!!

Hold on just a minute there cowboy. I agree with just about everything you stated. But I do have a problem with the way he has handled himself since leaving UT.
As far as the whiskey comment. That is what the man drinks.

+1 KYVolfan!!!

And as for the way he has conducted himself since '92--he is as ornery now as he was back then. Johnny's a straight-shooter, always has been and always will be. I think he told it like it was a little too much back in those days and it came back to bite him. But, I think I'd rather have that than the rampant speculation that surrounds the current coaching situation...

The man deserved a heisman trophy as much or moreso than Manning did. He at least deserves to have his jersey enshrined!

Well cooter I think there is a diff in being a straight shooter and running your mouth. I appreciate all he did on the field as a player and as a coach (most as a coach). But what he has said and how he has acted since is not cool to me as an alum. I don't like airing dirty laundry for all to see. It is just not gentlemanly or very Southern.

He did have the guts to get rid of coaches when he needed to.

First of all. I still think it is wrong to be retiring numbers at all, with the exception of the players who were killed in WW2. However, since that pandora's box has now been opened, then yes Johnny deserves to have his #45 retired as much as the others who were chosen.

One of my colleagues used to play for Coach Majors.JM still calls my friend and checks on him. I know he is bitter and pops off too much but I still feel sorry for him at Pitt. He is the"Assistant to the Assistant to the Assistant to the.".............basically a token job.

He played before my time but I'm told he could do all. I belive they played both O andd D then. I know he kicked and returned kicks etc.

If Johnny retires from running his mouth, then they could consider retiring his jersey.

Fulmer hasn't been stabbed in the back either.

Maybe they should retire his jersey with a little red blood stain on the back.

I say retire his jersey, based on what he did on the field when he played. I think not retiring it would parallel keeping Pete Rose out of the Hall of Fame. Rose deserves to be in the Hall for what he did as a player. Keeping him out for something that happened after his playing days were over is horse sh--. That's another reason why I don't care for ML baseball anymore. Nobody can honestly deny that Pete Rose was one of the five greatest players in the modern era.
Majors was a great football player in his time and if UT jerseys are to be retired, he certainly deserves the honor. I say forget about his coaching years. By the way, didn't he coach Pitt to a National Championship?

Once again...another person who wants to decide what a "real fan" is. If someone wants to be sarcastic and take a cheap shot that is their choice. We try to have fun here and it is well documented that Johnny Majors enjoyed pouring alcoholic beverages down his throat. Quit takin stuff so seriously.

Majors doesn't meet the elgibility requirements.

Reggie White, rest his sole, had one great year at UT, his senior year (He was a dominant professional).

Peyton Manning couldn't beat Florida.

Doug Atkins was way before my time but I think he may have also played basketball also. Dominant pro DE for many years.

Are the numbers retired based an college or pro accomplishments?? If college then JM should be in.
