Reviewed Play?

Hey, I'll take the blunder anyday considering that Ethan Wolf appeared to have gotten away with a fumble. The last slow down replay showed the ball free at his waist w/o hs elbow touching the ground. Had they ruled it a fumble initially, then they would not have overturned it the other way either. Dude put his hat right on the ball/elbow and it came out. Dodged one their IMO.

Josh Malone was in the perfect spot to shield from the other cameras angles, play of the day!

That was my thinking, the ball was never legally snapped due to the false start, therefore the previous play could be challenged. Not saying this is the absolute rule. Would still appreciate full clarification.

But we snapped the ball!

The thing that bothered me the most is how slow they was at making a call on the reviews. I thought the ncaa was suppose to be getting on these refs about taking there sweet ass time on these reviews

Did you guys notice the call that slipped by? The one where Wolf was called down. We attempted to run the next play but got called for a false start. The refs then asked for a review of the Wolf play. Since they stopped the play to review it we should have not been flagged for that false start right! That play should have been dead since they reviewed the previous play.

If a previous play is reviewed then the next play doesn't happen. Nobody including the announcers noticed this. I am correct about this right guys? That's my understanding about the rule for reviewing plays. I think the refs missed this. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Wolf... Future all SEC

Net/Net...it WAS a fumble that we got away with due to inconclusive video evidence to overturn call on the field...

I think you're correct on this. Here's the rule from the NCAA:

ARTICLE 2. a. A game may be stopped, either by the replay official or by a head coach’s challenge, at any time before the ball is next legally put in play (Exception: Rule 12-3-5-d).

I agree that this was an odd scenario, but with the false start the ball was never legally put into play allowing the refs more time to review.

We jumped offsides, so technically the snap never happened. Offsides is a "Pre-Snap" penalty. Had we just been disciplined there, they wouldn't have a chance to review. We shot ourselves in the foot there. I'm just glad it only cost us 5 yards and didn't cost us possession.

We DID NOT jump offsides. Offsides is a defensive penalty. If a player on the defense jumps offsides that doesn't cause a dead ball foul. The play is allowed to continue on offside calls unless the defending player makes contact with an offensive player before the ball is snapped. I've never seen what happened on this play.

I understand that a play was never really physically run but isn't it considered a play because of the false start? The rule says a pre-snap penalty but what if the center just fake snapped the ball for a false start? Would that be considered a pre-snap penalty too? It's a bit confusing on this one but doesn't seem right to me still after reading the rule.

Look at it if the defense was to have jumped into the neutral zone would it be the same call? That's a pre-snap penalty as well because we wouldn't have actually snapped the ball. I'm still not clear about this one!
