Reynolds out due to concussion.

Posters here don't say players with broken ankles are out too long, or that their orthopedic surgeons are too cautious. I don't understand why concussion management produces the reaction it does. [Not directed at you, boxer.]

Well no, they actually do say if a player is taking too long to return from a sprained ankle if they know it is a sprained ankle.

People question concussion management here because we have had a player miss most or all of a season for three years running whereas there was never an instance of that happening before over a period of decades. Nor to my knowledge has such a thing ever happened at any of our rivals.

Has UConn ever had a player miss a season with a concussion, let alone three of them in three years? I believe we have had extremely bad luck or we use a more stringent protocol than is common. Didn't this pattern start with the arrival of the new trainer?

I think the concession protocol started when Grey (had a head injury) was her, and nearly died. Also Massengale had a history of them, back to high school. Jasmine used to throw up during games, for unexplained reasons, which lead me to believe she may have a history with them too. You don't want to mess with a brain injury, which a concussion is. I recently had a mild one, 3 weeks ago, I will feel normal and all the sudden lights are too bright, or a smell will be extremely intense, and I will be dizzy, or get a migraine. It is a scary situation, and you just never know when you have fully recovered. Having had one, I wonder if I would risk a contact sport after a second or third.

That is reflective of the medical advances in understanding concussions and improvement in national management protocols over the past 10-15 years.

Amber Gray did not have a head injury or a concussion. She had a ruptured aneurysm and stroke, which are very different things.

And I'm quite happy to say that I do not read the football forum. :)

Had nothing to do with Gray, her injury was not concussion-related.

The concussion protocol is not specific to the basketball program, it is the same one used across all sports at Tennessee.
