Rich Rod and Arizona?

Wazzu struggles shouldn't surprise anyone. They have been bad for a while, Mike Leach took over Dec 2012 and made a mad push straight through to NSD to hold the class together---Scout had them #53 when all said and done. 2013 will be his first true recruiting class which includes 4* QB Tyler Bruggman (to add w/ talented 4* WR Gabe Marks - 2012).
Wazzu is a good 3-4 yrs away but if anyone can turn this program around it's ML.

Be cautious of Arizona's hot start...Rich Rod lost 9 games he was favored in in his three years at Michigan. Also, whilst going 8-0 his last two years out of conference he went 4-12 in conference.

Congrats to Rich Rod. His spread "O" should bring some excitement to Phoenix Metro and the PAC-12.
Imagine 2-4 yrs dn the road, when he and Leach are more settled in, the Air Raid/Show displayed between the two vs. one another.

After reading 3 and out I've become a big Rich Rod fan, as a guy more than a coach. But as much as I love the Pirate, it'll be very difficult to recreate his TTU 8-5 clubs in Pullman. Pullman makes Lubbock seem like Toronto.

Not sure if serious

This is old but I believe there was a post about rivalries and I was stressing the level of rivalries between the Univ. Arizona and Arizona State. It goes beyond anything that happens in Tenn. The Steve Kerr incident was given as an example. It was sick beyond belief to mock a kid whose dad died in the Lebanon hostage crisis back then.

Arizona Wildcats: Phoenix, AZ::Tennessee Volunteers:Nashville, TN

The Wildcats aren't in Phoenix, that would be the Arizona State Sun Devils. The Wildcats are in Tucson.

As for the guy who snidely asked what's the difference, here's your answer. As a person who lived in Tucson for decades and often went to or through Phoenix, Phoenix is more trendy, sort of a slightly down-sized Los Angeles (Calif.). Tucson is more of like Fresno-Bakerfield (Calif.) mix. Saying there's no difference is equivalent to Arizonans saying "Murfreesboro, Knoxville what's the difference?"

I was referring to your description of Steve Kerr as if he was some obscure player. He's a very famous AZ player, very famous 3 point shooter and very famous NBA player - now announcer. Thought virtually everyone knew Steve Kerr.

Just because a person is famous doesn't mean he is well-known to everyone. The incident I refer to was many years ago so there are things I only vaguely recall. I wasn't a UA basketball fan. The only reason I knew anything about Steve was because I lived in Tucson and then that incident with his father in Lebanon which was in the local newspapers. I also saw in local papers about Steve's three point shooting so you may say I had passing familiarity with him. If I was a morbid fan, I'd probably be able to cite players from various eras, their stats, their grandma's pie baking specialties and what not. Same thing with Billy Kilmer. I met him, he told me he had a family member who had a disability. I met her, she has a hearing disability. But I couldn't without looking it up tell you what college Billy Kilmer played for or if his given name was Billy or actually William. He didn't mean enough to me for me to bother knowing that. And I've been a Redskin fan since around 1967. You can be famous but not necessarily famous or equally famous to everyone.
I watched the Mod Squad shoot scenes in front of my dorm in California but couldn't name the actors to save my life without looking it up. Same thing with the guy who played Marcus Welby M.D. though I watched them shoot scenes with him too and he talked with students lingering about. What's his real name? I don't know, I was aware of the TV show but not enough care very much about the person. Like Steve, he was just a name I knew in connection with some information of which I was aware.

To me, Megan Fox is a pretty woman who played in a sci fi movie about giant robots that looked like kids' toys I used to see in stores and later in comic books. I didn't even know she was from Tennessee until I read it here. She's famous but not enough to me beyond being pretty and a sci fi actress. But some hot stud who has trouble keeping his pants zipped will probably know what she eats, what time she sleeps and what brand of make up she uses. She doesn't mean enough to me to care that much about her. So like Steve she's marginalized in my memory.

Didn't mean to offend :hi:

You didn't offend, I was correcting your misinformed comments. Sometimes I have a weird way of doing it. Partially due to coming from a culture where bluntness is expected. And partially just being a weird dude.

Relax bud my comment was intended to be very tongue in cheek.

He's got 5 NBA championship rings, the first 3 coming from Michael Jordan's Chicago Bulls teams. Also holds the record as the NBA's most accurate 3 point shooter ever. Didn't know that about his dad though and I was a big fan of those Bulls teams.

True story.

A couple years ago when they thought they had Oregon beat in Tucson, only for the Ducks to storm back and win as the fans started lining the sides of the field waiting to storm the field and wind up looking miserable was entertainment of the highest order.

I know alot here probably don't care and/or haven't really thought about it but does anyone think that Arizona could be a surprise team out of the Pac"12" this year?

I haven't really paid any attention to their situation and was just curious to hear some thoughts.

Fire away.

I don't really follow Arizona enough to speak intelligently about them, but I will say Rich Rod is more of a fit for that conference than he was in the Big 10. IMO, the problems he had in getting his type of players along with the time it would have took him to succeed at Michigan, won't be an issue in Arizona.

2 reasons why.

1) Arizona doesn't have as storied of a history in football as Michigan, so their fanbase should be more patient with Rich Rod

2) Rich Rod probably already has smaller speed type players on the roster seeing as though that's the type of athlete favored by most Pac 10 teams.

Talk about nothing going your way in a game. 0/6 in the red zone. Multiple pick 6's thrown. That's a lot of points left on the field.

It got ugly quick, but if AU could have scored a couple TD's in the red zone they would of had a chance.
