Rick Barnes tells Okpara to never shoot another 3. Too funny.

Barnes calls it "lucky". I get that it was a shot to beat the clock, but it looked pretty damn pure to me.

Okpara's stroke on the shot looked smooth and textbook. What if he's a shooter and Barnes never knows? This is a problem I have with Barnes, he often doesn't know his players' full abilities. Let Okpara take some of these shots, teams would not be able to defend the big fella with a jumper. If he hits a few of them, it adds a for opposing teams to have to worry about defensively.

Barnes has always handcuffed guys, his whole career and it shows when they play tight. He should let them play more freely

Yeah, we probably know more out FO's abilities than the guy that coaches him in practice every day.

Every time Felix takes an outside shot our best rebounder is out of position and useless. In team basketball there’s cause and effect for every choice.

Hahaha…I guess he’s never spent hours and hours watching these guys practice.

I don’t know about that. Barnes historically seems to be pretty good at getting the best out of most of his players natural abilities and then also getting the most out of the skills they need to develop..

I think Barnes statement was satirical.

He said in post game last night he wants him to shoot more 3's. It was puzzling to listen to the broadcasters talk about Barnes having to coach Shack on how to release his 3 ball. Shack is a senior. He should have his stroke down by now.

sometimes it is best to be silent and thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.

Go look at Awaka & Aidoo's stats from this year and then tell me Barnes doesn't get the most out of his players.

Barnes doesn't know what you know?

Handcuffed guys? That's laughable given he's often demanded guys shoot more

You must have had a bad dream earlier this morning

Wouldn't their best rebounder typically be guarding him? So it pretty much cancels out.
Pretty rare that any centers closely guard the opposing center on the 3 point line unless they are a proven shooter there like Broome. IIRC Miss St’s center was sagged off of Felix on that play which was the statistically correct thing to do.

This post started out with so much potential. Then it took a left turn off a cliff.

I do agree that his shot looks pretty good, to be honest. It isn't unnatural and robotic. He's also a pretty decent FT shooter for a guy who is 6-11, so that skill is translatable. I have no doubt that if he worked on it that he could develop a mildly reliable 3-pt shot for someone his size, but as walkenvol said, him shooting 3s at what you'd assume is not going to be a reliable rate comes with the price of not having a rebounder underneath the basket. Our lack of size and depth in the post doesn't really afford us the luxury of our 6-11 center to be out around the 3-pt line hoisting shots.

Lmfao, you don’t think Barnes gets daily reports about who was in the gym, for how long, and what they shot and made? They literally track everything on every player, they know who can shoot lol.

Yeah if I’m an opposing coach, I’m not doing hard close outs on that shot until he’s made 3 of them lol.

I have no clue why our fans love to take shots at Barnes considering he’s done so much for our program.

I would guess it’s because most all our fans have never played sports at a high level themselves. They only understand the obvious things and miss the subtle nuances that separates a W from a L against highly competitive teams.

This might be a worse take than any that will occur after the game Saturday and that could be saying a lot. A guy whose shot a total of 12 threes in his college career and only made 2 of those is a shooter and the coach with the second most active wins in the country doesn’t know it…okay.

I'm sure that before Barnes offers someone in the portal, he has watched a ton of film on them. Okpara is a post player, defending against the dribble drive, lob pass, and trying for the rebounds on missed shots.
