Rico Pickett 2009 JUCO PG

He was a significant bust at Bama. He would not fit in at UT.

Pickett was too sloppy with the ball and was not a good shooter at Bama. He may have fixed his turnover problems at JUCO, but I don't know that he could have fixed his outside shooting problems.

How does that not fit in at UT? That sounds like every player on our roster.

I wouldn't say he was a bust. He led the team in assists per game. It's hard to ask a freshman to come in right away and be a significant contributer, just ask Scotty Hopson. Pickett seems to have all the tools necessary and with the right coaching I see him being a factor if he comes here.

So, we recruited a point guard who washed out of the Big 12 last year, now we're going to take a shot at an SEC failure. Nice.

Rivals.com Basketball Recruiting - Meyer's Mailbag: Tyler in contention for No. 1?

Triple trouble
Obviously, Tennessee has had extensive trouble shooting the 3-ball this season. With this in mind, do you see UT going after any JUCO players or getting in the mix with any top shooting guards for next year's class?

Tennessee has been on the hunt for a high-level shooting guard all season, and it appears that the Volunteers might be closing in on a quality prospect. Former Alabama point guard Rico Pickett has had a superb season as a shooting guard for Miami Dade Community College, averaging 25 points per game. Presently the four-star prospect has Tennessee in his top three along with Florida and Florida State. There are even rumblings that Tennessee is the team to beat.

Landing Pickett would be huge for Tennessee because not only would he give them needed perimeter scorer, but he would also provide some length and depth at the point guard position.

Rivals seems to think he is goin to tennessee.

Do we have enough scholarsips? If Tyler and Wayne decide to return, I do not think we have any spots with Kenny Hall coming in to replace Chilly.

There have been rumors about players transferring or being asked to leave the team at the end of the year.

Why can't our players lay off the weed? I hope everybody stays and we bring in Kenny Hall. I wonder how this Rico kid would compare to D.West.

All I know is, that this kid would fit right in. I mean, he wears a headband so bring him in lol.

All of this JUCO PG talk is reminding me of a certain "baller" named Bobby Maze who was tearing up the JUCO competition. Now we know that he indeed isn't quite the "baller" we thought he would be. I'm not going to be too optimistic about another PG unless it's Selby.

I truly hope no one gets kicked off of this team. Duke and Ramar were really big losses last year. We can't afford any more...

He was second on the team in assists and tied for the team lead in turnovers. He shot less than 40% in FG and 3pt percentage. He shot 57% at the Foul Line.

Considering what Terico White, Courtney Fortson, Derek Rose, Tyrek Evans, etc. have done over the past couple years, I think it is very capable for a highly touted kid to produce right away. And when they put up the kind of putrid numbers that Pickett did, they are a bust.

The only thing going for Pickett right now is that he still has time to fix his game and make a name for himself. He might fill a role, but I wouldn't expect big things, JMO.

Bobby Maze played out of his mind against SC. He also won us the Arkansas game.
