Looks like Foster, Yancy here on out. Id like to see a package that would allow Ja' to get outside without scheming the O-line. Dont look for Coker this season.

lets all just admit that riggs's whole career has been a bust. he will probably be a very late round selection in the draft. he is lazy like maurice clarett imo. i dont think he has it all. one good game while he was here. (sec championship)

lets move on and try to support foster and see if these "great" freshmen are for real. lord knows we need one to step up. havent had a real good back here since the Travis'

I think Riggs has talent I just think he was lazy early in his career, and Trooper lit a fire under him last yr, this yr I think he suffered from the same thing the rest of the offense is suffering from....what that is who knows but they need to get over it already!!!!!

Tennessee lost its second preseason first-team All-Southeastern Conference player in as many games with the announcement Monday that senior tailback Gerald Riggs Jr. is gone for the season.

UT head athletic trainer Keith Clements said Riggs suffered lower leg and ankle injuries during the fourth quarter of Saturday's 6-3 loss to Alabama. The evaluation of his injuries continues this week but Clements said Riggs definitely will miss the remainder of the 2005 football season.
The damage occurred at the end of a 24-yard run by Riggs with just more than six minutes remaining in the game. Crimson Tide defensive back Simeon Castille fell on Riggs' right leg and ankle while making the tackle near the left sideline.

"I'm going to allow the UT Sports Medicine staff and team of orthopedic surgeons to continue directing my care," Riggs said. "I think that gives me the best opportunity to return successfully from this injury."

The Chattanooga native closes his UT career 13th on the school's all-time rushing list despite making only nine collegiate starts. Riggs rushed for 1,893 yards on 383 attempts for a 4.9-yard average.

He scored 10 career touchdowns, the longest being an 80-yard jaunt highlighted his 182-yard rushing effort in the 2004 SEC Championship Game against Auburn. Riggs led the Vols his junior season with 1,107 yards on the ground, joining Cedric Houston to become Tennessee's first pair of 1,000-yard rushers in the same season.

Riggs, whose father played a combined 10 NFL seasons for the Falcons and Redskins, joins teammate Jason Allen on the sidelines. Allen suffered a season-ending hip injury two weeks earlier against Georgia. Both players were widely acclaimed heading into the 2005 season, landing on numerous preseason All-SEC teams and making several national watch lists.

Clements also reported that defensive end Parys Haralson was discharged from UT Medical Center Monday afternoon. The senior captain spent the night undergoing observation and treatment for an illness.

(EDITOR'S NOTE: With Riggs sidelined, 6-1, 211-pound redshirt freshman Arian Foster moves into the starting tailback role. Foster carried 14 times for 53 yards vs. Alabama. For the year, he has 36 carries for 137 yards.)

INJURY REPORT (South Carolina Week): Probable -- OG Rob Smith (ribs), DT Justin Harrell (wrist); Questionable -- DE Parys Haralson (illness); Out for Season -- TB Gerald Riggs (ankle, leg).

Anyone see the replay of his injury? Was there some extra curricular activity by the defender on Riggs' ankle?

Riggs isn't lazy, he's just had to earn everything he's got this year....Our offensive line hasn't been as productive as it could be.....We don't fall off much though from the looks of it....I will be curious to see what Foster has though

I saw that and wondered the same thing. It took him a long time to let go of Riggs' leg. I'd have to watch it again, but I'd hate to think the bama defender would do it on purpose in what was otherwise a very well-fought, clean game.

I don't understand how they are evalutating his injury and are not announcing that anything is broken or torn, but yet he is for sure out for the season.

When orthos diagnose injuries, they see certain things for sure and other things that are left to time. I expected Riggs to have a broken fibula, he may still, time is needed for the swelling to recede for a proper MRI and additonal Xrays and testing.

Or maybe the Riggs have nothing left to acomplish and wish to have Gerald concentrating on his NFL career.

Hate to hear about Riggs. Wish him the best! The guy who tackled him is a good kid, he just landed on his ankle at the end of the play. Saw the replay, and it did not look good. Not as bas as Prothro's, but looked like he broke it.

I'm new to the board, and must admit I was looking to rub it in a little . But, after checkin out the board the past few days decided against it. I have seen some funny s**t on here and have enjoyed myself just reading the post and checkin out the photos.

About the game. It was tight, defense was great, and a few bounces our way decided the outcome. Our games are always gonna be tight!

Anyway, I am pulling for you guys to run the table for remainder of the season, BCS and all. And would love to see the irish go down!!!!

Did you also see how your "good kid" pulled Riggs foot up over his head, on purpose, in the tumble?

He probably got a little excited. But that is not what hurt him, Simeon falling on his leg/ankle is what did it.

That was not nearly as bad as your Dlineman trying to take off Brodie's head! But hey, the game was intense and they are playing ALL out. I'm almost certain they don't go out there and say, " I think I'm gonna break the Qb's neck" or " This is a great time to break the ball carriers leg".

Good game. And good luck!

I thought my b'f was kidding me earlier when i had asked him about Riggs. I do hope he recoups well and still has a shot at the pro's.

Nothing against Riggs, but this does not appear to be a set back, more like an opportunity to seed some change in the offense.

:lolabove: The way I see it, we will win 3 out of our next 5 games (ND is questionable) and become bowl eligible before the last game of the season, WHEW! The same thing (losing a starting running back) happened to Alabama in last years game here in Knoxville. They struggled to win 2 of their last 5 to become bowl eligible. Now that they put out our starting running back along with several others, it will be interesting to see how we react. On the bright side, we're heading into the cup cake part of the season so we should win 4 of 5 by just showing up. Last of all, someone needs to be fired at the end of this season.

After the last six games this doesn't seem like a setback to me.  What do you think?

You better get used to seeing the run. Coach Fulmer said that is plan for the rest of the season. I would like to see some more wing backs and T formation. Bring back the four horsemen to big time college football! (well i guess we just have three but whatever)

I think it's terrible. Riggs is a strong runner, especially late in the game, and a leader on the team. Losing him is costly, especially without a threat at QB. His lack of success this year, IMO, can be attributed to two main factors: 1) poor play by the OL and 2) the inability to stretch the field with the passing game.

I really hate this injury for the kid and for the team. Let's not forget how hard this is for Gerald -- dropping from a preseason "Heistman-hopeful" to off the radar.

As with the injury to Allen, we must now turn to youth and inexperience. Let's hope Foster and Anderson can hold onto the ball from here out.

3) the unexplicable lack of carries when he was doing well (i.e. Florida)

110 yards vs UAB
86 yards vs Florida (63 yds in '04)
89 yards vs LSU
125 yards vs Ole Miss (118 yds in '04)
52 yards vs Georgia (102 yds in '04)
68 yards vs Alabama (39 yds in '04)
----------
530 total yards rushing

After 6 games last season, he had 521 yards rushing on 103 carries. This season, he has had 127 carries. That is only 24 more than at this time last year... or an average of only 4 more carries per game. Houston had 74 carries after 6 games last year... while Foster has only 36 attempts this season.

Through the first 6 games of 2004, the Vols had 255 rushing attempts for 1142 yards. However, those yards are padded due to 619 of those yards coming against UNLV and LaTech. That leaves only 523 in the other 4 games or an average of 130 ypg. Against Auburn, the Vols only had 31 rushing attempts.

In 2005, the Vols have only 203 rushing attempts for 603 yards. Other than against Ole Miss, the Vols have had fewer than 35 rushing attempts in all other games. The Vols did have 48 rushing attempts for 172 yards vs Ole Miss.

I think you are right on Volman. Let's hope that whatever this ailment is that it is cured soon!
