For the life of me I can't understand why the Dems assume that the Hispanic vote would go their way. These people are fleeing countries that have been ruined by the same kind of policy decisions that the Dems are known for.

But then again, they probably didn't learn the lesson from their experience.

Being that I'm completely fluent in Spanish, perhaps I should become a community organizer... :question:

If businesses have to pay illegals the same wage as legal Americans, it could bring about the end of illegal hiring.

If the solution involves enforcement, why not just enforce the existing immigration laws?

I actually don't differ too much from W's views on immigration. Above all we need to secure the border. After that, a guest worker program and path to citizenship makes sense to me.

Just commenting how this could blow up in this administration's face. They try to portray themselves as standing up for illegals, but their actions end up causing the mass layoffs of illegals. Think of the irony.

I could not disagree more. First of all, I don't trust anyone to secure the border. We have tried amnesty and it didn't work. Why should we reward people for breaking the law?

My position is similar. Close the border. Then we can have a national discussion about what to do next, as long as that included deporting any who have broken American laws beyond illegally crossing the border. There are a lot of fine, hard working folks who fled their country and came here that would be an asset and blessing to our country.

If the good ones want to be here, fine. But go home first and get in line. I am all for legal immigration but this has to be done on a limited basis and only when an American can't or won't do the job. Right now we have between 15% and 20% unemployment, trust me many of those people would love to have jobs.

the primary problem in southern california hs that there just doesn't seem to be enough jobs for the illegal.
