On a more positive note, Riley Ferguson is the starting quarterback at Coffeyville, Kansas Community College, and his team is 4-0.

He is 116 of 171 , completing 67% for 1701 yds, 20 TD's and 3 INT. I believe that he was ahead of Dobbs on the depth chart as a freshman while at U.T., but he had a leg injury. I am glad that he and Peterman are both starting and doing well.

Ferguson will wind up at a big school next season. Good luck. I hope that he doesn't play us.

I can't find the article, but I remember reading an interview where he expressed remorse over his decision to leave.


It would be interesting to see what would've happened if he'd stayed. We might be 4-0 if we had a QB the staff trusted to sling the ball. I don't mean to trash Dobbs by that, but the staff obviously is unwilling to let him sling it around.

It's not really positive or negative just interesting, because if UT's offense struggles due to the lack of downfield passing. Dobbs is a good runner and apparently a good receiver, but without a passing game to speak of teams have started to key on the running game in the second half.

Why aren't they mad at Butch since we have no passing game, and we had a man with a golden arm ahead of Dobbs on the depth chart?

So your argument is that prior to 2014 Jones should have handed the starting QB job to a redshirt freshman who'd never taken a snap, despite not really doing anything in spring practice and having a reputation for a bad attitude?

I agree that Ferguson bailing on us is turning out to be a disaster. I don't think it's reasonable to yell at Jones now because two years ago he didn't gift the job to some kid who'd done nothing to earn it. There are plenty of other reasons to howl at Jones now without digging into revisionist history.

You know who else killed it in Juco? Matt Simms and Dontavious Blair to name a couple. Good for Riley but doesn't mean anything with regard to what he could have done for UT.

I attended a JUCO game in Mississippi last Thursday. I swear, it was almost like watching a high school game. Granted, some of the players were better than others but it's not the same game. A decent QB in JUCO can pile up some big numbers if he has one good RB and one good WR.

I remember reading threads about B.J. Coleman after he left and his stats at UTC that were nearly entirely filled with positive comments. Especially when he was with the Packers for a while.

Not sure why this is any different, except the fact VN has become much more cold and cynical since then.
