Riley taking his cruits with him

So a competent AD targets Shane Beamer at SC as it’s HC?

He was on staff there and popular with the administration but I doubt he’s in their top 3…I’d love for OU to grab him and let us start cherry picking talent out of SC again…

So that was during a different era and before Joe Castiglione arrived. They may whiff on this hire, but they won’t go down the drain of irrelevance for 15 years like we did. They have more competence at the top than we did under Hamilton, Hart, and Currie.
Joe Cash is no idiot. That's the difference.

We would be far better off-at least for the time being-if Venables took over at OU.

I don't see Beamer at SC as a real threat.

Venables leaves and the Clemson boat will take on a great deal more water. Anything that can weaken Clemson at this point is a plus for the Vols.

Riley is overrated. Hell probably be pretty successful at USC considering the competition. But no way he’d live up to expectations in the SEC. Oklahoma might be as well off if not better under a coach like Matt Campbell.

He just reset the expectations clock…the guy makes it to the playoff three times in five years and gets bounced in the first round three times. OU fans were getting impatient. USC won’t expect to see the playoffs for three to four seasons…it’s kind of like the old “get three envelopes” narrative…

Even if he keeps an easier path the road still leads to the same place:

Getting his ass handed to him.

I think Riley has taken -1- recruit to USCw.

It's looking like he's whiffed (so far) on getting Caleb Williams. Several are in the portal but not committed, yet anyway.

I'm no fan of Riley but he's just set OU on fire, he didn't loot it.

Up to 3 that have joined him at USC now. 2022 and 2023 classes at OU have had 4 decommitments each. This really is like déjà-vu

OU will not repeat our mistakes that led to a downward spiral into football irrelevance. They actually have a competent AD and administration over there.
We have a better recruiting base... they could fall further than we did. We will see. I think they’re in trouble and joining the SEC was a huge mistake.

I agree them joining the SEC was a mistake, as was Texas, Texas A&M and Missouri. Can you elaborate on the "better recruiting base"? Not sure I follow.

They will not fall like we did with Kiffin leaving. Multiple reasons are in their favor. They are not less than 2 weeks from signing day. The transfer portal can work for or against them as anyone so I place that as a wash. Another reason is while if Lincoln Riley was their coach when they neter the SEC or not they were going to get a reality check and be knocked down a few pegs. They probably have a couple seasons or so to play in much weaker conference to not completely fall off the earth. If they start finishing 8-4 9-3 thats step back but then they can decide to cut bait with that coach then or carry that to the SEC. My thinking is because of what they have experienced they will not be happy and want a new coach as they enter the SEC. At that point they will start their fall to mediocrity.

I think the lynchpin is Caleb Williams. If he transfers, I think the damn breaks for OU and lots more bail. Bob Stoops isn't going to hold players. They need someone the kids can hook their future to.
