RIP Bobby Knight

Went to his basketball camp when I was a kid. I believe it was 7th grade. Very cool experience and we stayed in the dorms at IU. On the final day of camp, the parents were invited into the gym to pick up their kids and listen to his departing speech. He was talking about the dangers of drugs etc. He said “Kids. If anyone ever walks up to you and offers you drugs. You tell them to shove it up there F’ing ass and that Coach Knight sent ya!” I found it hilarious, but there were many faces of shcck. RIP to a legend.
That is for real a cool story bro.

Dang.

RIP coach.

You were certainly one of a kind.

As a former high school head basketball coach for 15 years, I went to a dozen or so clinics. Saw Coach Knight twice. First time, I thought maybe he was just having a bad day. Second clinic confirmed my initial thoughts. Hell of a basketball coach, one of the best ever; not so much as a person, JMO. Probably the best clinic I ever went to had Jerry Tarkanian as the main speaker. His man to man defense and how he taught it was brilliant.

Bobby Knight was a great coach, but he had no filter on his mouth. Glad that he did not coach in the Twitter world we live in.

I met him at the Shiloh Battlefield when I lived in Lynchburg. He was nice enough to me. I asked what he was doing in the area and he told me he was recruiting a kid from the area. The kid's name was Boomer Herndon, I found out later.
