RIP SEC on CBS

The CBS college football theme is such a big part of the overall presentation, it makes big games feel bigger and is an indelible part of what makes SEC games memorable...This sucks, I know a lot will disagree, but this sucks.

It’s the best theme in sports . No question about it. It’s a shame that cbs wasn’t willing to do more than 1 prime time game a year. On the plus side, there’s about to be a lot more big time night games in the SEC.

More than anything might be that it would open up the late afternoon timeframe more since the conference wouldn’t have an exclusivity towards only a single game game being aired during that 3:30pm time period.

CBS was basically just the Bama and Georgia network we lost pretty much everytime we played a CBS game and Gary laughed at us. I won’t miss it.
Now that depends on how far back you are going. CBS has had the SEC package since 1996. Sean McDonough and Terry Donahue called 6 of our games for CBS in 1998. This does feel like the end of an era. And basically, a monopoly for ABC/ESPN. I don't really like it.

Maybe if we didn’t suck and those 2 teams weren’t playoff contenders the last how many ever years we would’ve been on there more and they would’ve been on there less. There was once a time when our game with the Gators was the CBS Primetime game.

Five times, in fact... 1998, 1999, 2004, 2005 and 2006.

Which is a good thing...Bama and LSU should have NEVER been a mid afternoon kickoff this year.

I will miss the CBS--SEC collaboration.

However, Gary Danielson needs to have a lifetime contract (or life sentence) with the Big 10 Network.

If that doesn't work out, he could always be Tim Tebow's personal assistant.

Pretty sure they (and Fox) are good and will pass.

Or on the hallmark channel... more appropriate for the love affair he has with Bama and Tebow and so my mom can experience the miserable feeling I have had every sat at 330 in the fall.

This does suck. We were featured tons of times in that Saturday afternoon 230 pm slot. Almost every year the Florida game. Alabama game....and others. Wait...since we always lose those games maybe this is a good thing?

The more I think about it, the more I don't like it. Money is the driving force behind every decision made in college athletics and I'm sure the deep Disney pockets will pay a buttload more to the SEC than CBS was going to... but the SEC will be losing a part of it's identity by selling out. CBS was only televising the SEC in the regular season (aside from the Army vs Navy game). Now that the SEC will be going back to the Mouse networks, the presentation of the SEC's marquee games will be just like that of any other conference. Money aside, I think it's a mistake.

B1G marquee games are on at Noon, hope that doesn"t happen to the SEC.

I don't care about the announcers, I usually watch with sound off, or VOL network in background. The nice thing about CBS is that I can get it with an antenna or streaming. Don't have to pay cable bill for it. (They also stream the video free). Takes that option out. Hate it for solely that reason.

Gary will be in his 70’s when the CBS contract expires. I’m sure he’ll be just fine going into retirement with all the millions he’s made from CBS.
