RIP Twitter

Meltdown as Elon Musk enters Twitter headquarters ahead of takeover: ‘Let that sink in!’

"Tech billionaire with very strong, eccentric and often half-baked views on politics, powered by enormous ego, is live-tweeting his takeover of this platform," Der Spiegel journalist Mathieu von Rohr wrote.

Nobody gives two sh1ts what a journalist from Der Spiegel thinks.

The meltdown is amusing. He is basically changing it from a propaganda platform to a free speech platform.

You have a lot of faith in a man who has been completely erratic, as of late. I am hopeful, but let's not pretend we know how this is going to turn out.

Erratic how exactly?

Where do we begin? LOL. Do you think he's behaved predictably? I did not expect to see him buy Twitter. I didn't expect him to try to weasel out of the deal. Pumping Dogecoin was weird. I didn't expect to see him turn into an internet troll. Tweeting a photo of Bill Gates and writing, “in case u need to lose a boner fast” is pretty erratic behavior for a titan of industry, wouldn't you say?

Is unpredictability erratic? And honestly, was he trying to weasel out of it or just trying to expose something everyone pretty much knew about?

Yes, he's guilty of trolling for sure. Though I'm not sure it isn't for his own gratification and amusement. The way people go all batshit crazy over his Tweets?

There is a fairly large Howard Hughes vibe going on with him, but he has had success in almost everything he touches.

Yeah he’s very much like Howard Hughes on the innovative genius side. Hopefully not as far into the outright 🦇 💩 crazy side. Both are the very definition of “eccentric”

You talking about bot accounts? I didn't see this aspect of the story through, so I may have bad information, but wasn't he completely wrong about that? What did he expose?

The point isn't that the trolling is a big deal. The point is that it's erratic.

I cringe at the idea that he's been successful at almost everything. As far as I know, most of what he's built has been subsidized in very big ways. He's a success because he's accomplished what he's set out to do, and it's very impressive, so don't get me wrong...but there are other measures of success, like would he have turned a profit yet on anything if his operations didn't leverage the government so much?

It's not as much "proof" on his side as making them prove what they were saying. He had conditions in the contract that said XX% couldn't be bots. They said there weren't without proof. He called them on it and made them show the numbers.

I'll disagree on the erratic part and we'll agree to disagree.

And yes, he has several ventures that have paid themselves off. Take PayPal for example. I don't recall government funding on that. SpaceX has paid itself back over and over again especially with the cost savings to the government. And making the rockets reusable came from his own funding.

While yes, they do still receive significant government funding, I still believe SpaceX would be able to stand on its own in the commercial market. Especially at the prices they charge. I've seen the 60-40 number thrown out several times in regards to the commercial-government percentage in regards to space launches. So, they'd likely have to scale back some if they didn't have the government sector, but it wouldn't kill them.

Lol, wtf. What other person in his position behaves like this?

In other words he is reekin’ havoc?

Do you think he's erratic or his DGAF meter is just pegged because he's super rich?

Let's face facts here. If you had his money and the media microscope he has, some of your habits and actions would likely fall under "erratic behavior."

"Why the eff is Huff out there riding two horses like he's water-skiing and chugging Natty Light while singing Kesha?"

The two are not mutually exclusive. You're talking about a cause of erratic behavior. We're arguing about whether or not it's erratic and now you're just saying that it's excusable/explainable with the understanding that it is erratic...so it appears we actually agree.

I would be the absolute worst super rich guy on the planet. People think Trump and Musk are bad because they are rich and have poor filters. I would be 10 times worse.....and love every minute of it!

Yeah me too. I don’t think we redneck hillbillies know how to be rich gracefully.
