RIP Twitter

I have this feeling advertisers will return sooner rather than later... maybe not Disney, but others will. They realize just as much as Musk does the "woke" agenda isn't a path to success. And the liberal mob screeching is, generally speaking, an extreme minority. Just like the extremist MAGA mob is, generally speaking, a minority.

Companies not advertising because... free speech... is not a good look these days. And to claim "hate speech is on the rise" isn't the same either. Because you can look at FB or IG or Tiktok or any social media platforms and find "hate speech on the rise." And likely just as much or more as Twitter. But Twitter is the only one that got hammered for it? And because they opened the place back up as inclusive to all political beliefs and not just those moderators agreed with?

Again, advertisers will be back since Twitter is still one of the "big" sites in the social media hierarchy.

The problem is that Musk wants everyone and everything to be on Twitter and he's not making it a place for everyone and everything. Those with a woke agenda experience failures because it's not best for bringing in everyone and everything....the exact same thing is true of having an anti-woke agenda.

In the case of Twitter under Jack Dorsey, etc. they may have had an agenda, but they never declared war. Musk declared war. It's hard to come back from that.

The free speech stuff...if you're still saying that, then you have no idea what's going on. Speech isn't any freer than it was before Musk. Advertisers aren't gone because of free speech. They're gone because they don't want to associate their brands with Musk and Twitter.

I have my own theory about that...

I'm sure it's a great one and way more complicated than the incontrovertible truth that fortune 500 companies like Visa don't want to be publicly associated with toxic people. You can say it's unfair to view Musk as toxic*, but the bottom line is he is toxic. There's nothing else to discuss. There is no special need to advertise on Twitter, so why do it when Twitter is a land mine?

*I think he's definitely fairly viewed as toxic. Who are the other titans of industry trolling everybody over ********? He's constantly sticking his foot in his mouth with d-baggery and ignorant takes. I'm not even talking about the stuff people are interpreting as white supremacy or antisemitism, or whatever. I'm talking about general behavior. The fact that he's on Twitter all the time just shooting the breeze with sycophant neck beards puts him into his own category of an industry titan.

I'm not sure about toxic. I do think he has Asperger syndrome though.

I don't totally buy the interpretation of these numbers. Could be some misleading but real data in this snapshot. However, I just found it and it's apropos to this conversation, so I'm sharing.

I believe him when he said he is on the spectrum, and that makes me sympathetic and allows me to ignore certain behaviors to an extent. People on the spectrum have trouble being fake just for the sake of cultural norms and they don't know how to filter their thoughts. Where I struggle to give him a full pass is they do have the capacity to STFU and not talk at all when nobody is asking for them to opine. They understand that their mouth is costing them and the people all around them money. This isn't, "Rogan asked me what I thought about woke culture and I was high and ended up saying too much." This is him again and again trolling with the same losing barbs and mistakes. It feels much more like a mental health thing (narcissism and maybe delusions) than a social capacity thing. Believe it or not, I can still find a little sympathy for narcissists, too, but not nearly as much as people on the spectrum.

And just riffing off the narcissism thing...you're going to have some narcissistic tendencies when you are a billionaire, but he's got the least amount of self awareness that I remember observing through the public.

I'd say Ron White put it best when he said "I had the right to remain silent, but not the ability."

Very much Musk.

As for the narcissism, yes, it's there. It's almost always there in your "captains of industry" label. I'm not entirely certain I'd label him as a "Captain" though. I mean, he is, but not like the traditional Morgans or Fords or Rockefellers.

Eccentric is certainly a label to apply. And I think all people that are highly intelligent and have loads of money tend to be eccentric. I do think their eccentricities get highlighted more since they are in the public eye.

Can't see how this is something other than wishful thinking, considering their advertisers now are people like Matt Walsh and crypto scammers lol

Ah. I see we're still carrying on about how terrible Twitter is while still constantly being on it.

To me it is less about narcissism and more about insecurity/desperation for people to see him as cool

That's 10,000,000 pounds lifted into space. I cannot even conceive of that actually happening.
Huge..doesnt even look real.

I caught up with a C-5 doing touch and goes many years ago..looked like it was going 45 mph.

Polarizing is a better term, but the end result is the same. Fortune 500 companies usually don't like being associated with polarizing figures either.

The bolded part basically is narcissism. He's a strange dude who has a lot in common with Howard Hughes, who was also a weird dude. I think that's who he wants to be like, IMO. He doesn't want to be known as just as businessman or CEO; more like a "the most interesting man in the world" type from the Dos Equis commercials.

I love your response because you equate society to Twitter and your boyfriend Huffhines liked it. This is too much fun for a Thursday. hahahahahahaha
The logic of the statement doesn't change if you replace "society" with another thing lol. My goodness you are dense
