they have signed 5 and currently have 21 overall commits i thought they were being penalized and could only take 15 players for the next 2 or 3 years? so whats the story just curious

They are trying to get 10-12 in as EE so they can back count half from last cycle. They lost players to the NFL and tranfers. Nothing the NCAA can do about this cycle so they could have a class of 25.

can we do this? We lost Berry and Rogan to NFL, well Berry anyways. We lost Brown and the O lineman forgot his name.

We lost a lot more than that. Out of last 2 classes we've lost B. Brown, Edwards, Green, Myles, Richardson, J. Brown, Clark, Dixon, and Loften.

they can get around it with back counts and not having to worry about the SEC scholly limits. It would hurt more if they were a SEC team.

It is complicated; they can sign 15 because of the penalties from the NCAA. However this does not count E.E because they count backwards to the last year. EE’s do not count players that leave early for the NFL, they are left over scholarships from the year before. (NCAA ALLOWS 25 PER YEAR YOU SINGN 20 YOU NOW HAVE 5 SPOTS YOU CAN BACKCOUNT). We also do this, the part that sucks is that the SEC limits us too three per year. USC has no such limitation. They claim to have 9 spots left, I am not a USC fan but I would assume that that is close to the correct amount. So now they have 15 + 9 (which have to be EE’s) =24.
They are currently appealing the sanctions but have accepted a reduction of 5 scholarships instead of 10. That would up the amount to 29. The NCAA also said that because they were losing 10 scholarships per year they would only be allowed to have 75 players instead of 85, but now can they sign 80? Who know s I don’t think anyone can figure this out every year we argue about how many we can they sign, they do to. Best guess 24-29

it is still a high profile school in a high profile city. these kids are probably being fed the fact that there isnt going to be much competition for PT as well.

The penalties were held off due to appeal. They can sign a full class.

Not true. The AA means business. Their appeal is bogus and they will still blow! They will not let SC get away with what they did.

I don't know for sure, but think that the sanctions officially start with the 2011 class and that the NCAA calendar might allow them to backcount some toward 2010 (not nearly a full class in 10, I don't think).

I think this is their last chance to sign more than 15 and suspect that the extra's will have to be EE's. Not sure, though. But, they def will not be able to do it next year.

IIRC, there is the issue of back counting combined with the appeal the school has filed. I think I read somewhere (don't ask me where because, sorry, I don't remember) that they are hoping to use the appeal to sign a full class.

I dunno how, but I KNOW HOW, if you know what I mean. A whole lot of secondary violations. haha

IMO...this is pretty ballsy move by USC's coaches...

The penalty is 10 schollies a year for the next 3 years...USC is blatantly trying to circumvent this with backcounting...they've basically saying "I know what you said but we're going to do everything we can to get around your penalty"

I think it's a very bold move for a program that's treading on thin ice as it is

It's perfectly legal though.

The NCAA shouldn't have so many loopholes.

I though part of their probation was tht they could only sign 15 for 3 years or something like that.
