Interesting power ratings by Rival. Bruce Pearl is ranked third behind Williams and Calipari, but ahead of Coach K. Bobby Maze is listed in the Top 25 in point guards, Tyler Smith 3rd in small forward (who knew?), and Scotty Hopson 10th in Freshmen. I found the rating of Pearl to be pleasantly surprising.

Pearl may be # 3 (Donovan, Stallings, Pearl) in the SEC, but not nationally. Putting him ahead of coaches like Coach K, Bill Self, Billy Donovan, Izzo is insane. Sweet 16s are down years for these coaches, not the pinnacle like it is for Pearl.

I would rank them: Williams, Coach K, Cal, Izzo, Donovan, Howland, Self, Few, Pitino, Boeheim, Calhoun, Dixon, and then Pearl.

Speaking of power rankings, weren't we #1 at the beginning of the year before the SEC starting stinking up courts across the country? We aren't in the top 25 now..

I think power rankings are intended to be depicted currently, and not their overall resume. I think.

How many times has Jamie Dixon had a team advance past the round of 16?

How many regional finals has Mark Few been to as a head coach?

Calisking has his own well know agenda and his opinion should be taken with a grain of salt (if at all). Most of his post are just to stir up the Volnation while touting a second rate athletic program. Power ratings do come and go as the season progresses and are not at all based on cumulative season accomplishments. Nonetheless, for Pearl to be rated third at any point of the season is an accomplishment. He and Capilpari have done great jobs in establishing competitive teams after the losses to both teams from last year. IMHO, Pearl was the best choice of all coaches for UT when hired and remains so today. No one else, Calipari, Williams, or Coach K could have done any more for the UT program than Bruce. Does that make him the best coach in the country? No. But it does make him the best coach for UT over anyone else in the country.

I would really rate you as the most entertaining poster on here. Really, you get the #1 nod for that. Obviously, your basketball knowledge surpasses anyone, anywhere, anytime. You even make John Wooden look like a nobody. Keep up the hilarity.

LOL at putting Stallings in front of Pearl.

How in the world did you get the idea that these power rankings are based on a coach's history? Perhaps it's best to understand the task at hand before commenting.

Tool.

He's name is Calisking...i.e. synonym for tool.

Calipara is a greasy, arrogant, whiney, d-bag of epic proportions. If they had power rankings for greasy D-bags he would totally kick ass. Unfortunately, I guess they don't he's too busy getting OWNED by Bruce Pearl.

If this power ranking were based on just this year, wouldn't Dixon and Few be in the Top 4? It is obviously based on recent history (i.e. the last 3-4 years). In that time, Stallings has been to as many Sweet 16s as BP, and is doing it with tougher academic restrictions.

Just curious, but how many National Championships has Memphis won in basketball?

The same # as Vols. You act like winning the NC is an easy thing to do. It takes blue blood programs years to win one (i.e. Kansas had a 20 year gap between their last NC and have won only 3). That being said, Memphis has had a ton more success on the national stage than the Vols. Not bad for an urban, commuter school from a non-BCS conference that has 1/10th the funding.

It least Cal doesn't have a cheap, orange suntan. I guess when you're chasing young tail, you have to stay cheesy.

BP was the best choice for the Vols. I've always wondered why UT basketball has not been as successful as it could be. It's been because of bad hires. BP does have an infectious energy and great basketball mind. His fault may be that he sometimes overcoaches.

I think that Coach K or Cal could succeed at UT. Coach K built Duke from the ground up. They were irrelevant in the early 80s. Cal built Umass, yes Umass, from the ashes. He has also resurrected a Memphis program that was headed for life support. Williams, I agree. Hell, I could coach at KU and UNC and win.
