Rockies vs. Padres

you give me one instance. I can give you hundreds where this situation has worked. besides, the world series you don't have to worry about protecting your arms. they have the whole offseason to rest

John Smoltz picked up his first saves in the postseason. Maddux himself pitched in relief in several postseason series. It happens occasionally.

I'd just argue that the save statistic created the notion of "the closer" to begin with, and that managers have become prisoners of the whole save/closer mystique. They don't use their best relief pitchers as usefully as they could.

Anyway. Heck of an ending, huh?

Holliday still hasn't touched home plate.:birgits_giggle:

That was a strange ending, wasn't it? I was sure Holliday was going to be called out when the catcher came back to put the tag on him.

A shame it's going to be a controversial ending, because that was a great baseball game. Hoffman got absolutely lit up; every ball in that inning was crushed. That sound you hear is his badass-closer aura circling around the toilet bowl.

Yeah I guess that made up for the home run called a double in the 7th. It was a strange thing for the umpire to do almost like he had second thoughts on saying he didn't touch the plate...

i'm not so sure he didn't graze the edge of the plate. He pushed his foot back, but i thought his foot was in the air. For about 2 frames you can see that something has grazed right on top of the edge of the plate, then the catcher's foot goes back over it.

and it was a heck of an ending. I still stand by it as the right call to wait on Hoffman. It's a mentality thing. Hoffman just didn't have it last night

the cubs are gonna win it, hands down... so since u have no first hand evidence to prove it, does this mean that u are delirious?
