Love the Osbourne brothers, but the best version is played by the POTS, hands down.

A petition needs to be started and sent to the city of "Lake City" stating that Rocky Top is a location in the hearts of all Tennesseans and does not belong to them. And if they continue using the name "Rocky Top" that we will boycott their city and any businesses within their city and any and all companies that does business within their city.

Thank you sir! I was just about to post that Rocky Top is a real place. If any city has a right to Rocky Top it's Gatlinburg. But, I'm like everybody else, Rocky Top represents the university of Tennessee, not a specific area. I also told cbj when the team visited Gatlinburg that Rocky Top was written at the Gatlinburg Inn. I shouldn't have been surprised that he didn't know, come to find out, a lot of folks don't know that.

I visited the hotel where Rocky Top was written, granted I LIVED in Gatlinburg for a while.

Osbourne Brothers version is better but Lynn Andersons version was more popular. Rocky Top is a fictional location. I wish Lake City was also fiction.

I've never heard her version before. Osborne Bros is the one I was raised on

Probably should've done that beforehand

why should independent businesses within the city have to go broke because the City Council elected to change their name?

also, since it keeps being brought up. Rocky Top is most certainly a specific place, so specific in fact that I don't know how any city can claim it for it's name.

Not even Blount County as a whole should have rights to call their county Rocky Top.

Boycott?

The reason the town wanted to change their name is because a promoter said he would build a theme park there if they did. He was looking for a small town in East Tennessee with two Interstate exits and they were probably the only town that met his requirements.

If he comes across on his promises, you may have someplace to boycott.

No way East Tennessee can resist a theme park.

Coal Creek, a.k.a. Lake City, and now Rocky Top is basically a clusterbum of nothing. I admire those that want and foster economic development, but, man I hate to use the old "Polish a turd" saying, but Lake City is one turd best buried instead of polished. Not sure what they are trying to accomplish with an "amusement park" when one can drive 40 minutes up the road to a real clusterfack of an amusement park. Lake City would be much better serviced if they had focused on a Mayberry type atmosphere with a PD and school system worthy of a small town atmosphere. Cut the ponytails, bathe, and clean out the pill/meth denizens would be a start. Oh well, the "good" representatives in Nashville allowed our beloved "Rocky Top" to now be represented by a slimy backwater drug infested burg funded by a banana slug with an extra million laying around. Yes, we need to start a petition. ****ville would be a good name for the place.
