This guy is a real piece of crap. One day after he canceled all state business with Bank of America for cutting off credit to a company, the Feds put him in custody

Illinois governor taken into custody - CNN.com

Federal prosecutors say Blagojevich, Harris and others conspired to gain financial benefits in appointing President-elect Barack Obama's Senate replacement, according to the statement.

"The breadth of corruption laid out in these charges is staggering," U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald said in a statement. "They allege that Blagojevich put a 'for sale' sign on the naming of a United States Senator; involved himself personally in pay-to-play schemes with the urgency of a salesman meeting his annual sales target; and corruptly used his office in an effort to trample editorial voices of criticism."

Sounds about as politically pure as the (former) mayor of your namesake.

What is wrong with that state's politicians? Usually this stuff is played out at the low level of state senates...but these guys love to bring it to the governor's office.

The last guy - Ryan I think - was selling truck driver licenses left and right (he had been former Secretary of State which oversees the DMV among other things).

the questions is. how much did obama know? when did he know it? how long has he known it. it's obvious since there is no evidence of hussein's involvement, we need to investigate to see how much he knows.

I too wonder how close this was to Obama? I did notice on Fox today how many pictures they showed of the guy posing with Obama

i was being sarcastic, but it really wouldn't suprise if obama knew some stuff. i've read articles and listened to various talk shows that talk about how corrupt the politics are in chicago.

U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald will be prosecuting this case. This is the same man who was smeared by everyone on the Right for his supposed partisan conduct during the Scooter Libby prosecution. I wonder if Fitz will be getting an apology?

I'd say Fitz deserved some smearing for the Scooty Libby case - what in was seeking wasn't there so he kept at it until he had a scrap. Fitz knew it was Armitage early on and knew there wasn't a conspiracy to leak.

Well, this is the subject for an entirely new thread (or a book), but I wholeheartedly disagree. I do expect Fitz to handle the Blago matter in much the same way as the Libby case, with total professionalism and without overstepping his authority. Seriously, the man is an American hero. He'd be a great Attorney General, if he wasn't already busy nailing crooks in the farm leagues.

He shouldn't have been smeared but Fitz was determined to come out with a prosecution - tis the nature of the special prosecutor.

I certainly don't condone perjury or obstruction of justice but these were not the "crimes" he was assigned to investigate. They were a by-product of the investigation rather than the focus. Same thing with Whitewater and Billy-boy.

Saw your later remark about the above being a bit of sarcasm. But I will add as an aside that you really do hurt your credibility by insisting on calling him Hussein. I know you think its funny. And I know you really believe that it has some significance. But as its irrelevant to whatever you might be discussing, I'd suggest that its continued use is making you look like you haven't any ability at all to be objective.

Fox promoting the notion that the guy is a close ally of Obama?

I'm stunned.

Yes, and by the trainsitive geographic property, since Obama is from there, he must also be corrupt. Excellent logic.

funny that article never points out his party affiliation. See they did it for other articles but must have just rushed this one.

The Governor, if he did this, betrayed the public trust and deserves to lose his post and face whatver criminal charges are appropriate.

What this scandal has to do with Obama (other than it was his Senate seat, among a lot of other things, the guy allegedly peddled), I am stil struggling to understand.

Also, first story I saw about this was on CNN and they prominently mentioned his party affiliation.

and i guess that hussein obama didn't know any messages that his preacher preached for 20 years.

get real law, you are truly a flavor-aid drinking sheep. i'm not say that he's apart of it, but you can't tell me that he is completely ignorant that he doesn't know the back room deals of the most corrupt state gov admin in America.

Blago had some nice things to say about the Obamassiah. Any chance that he'll be slapped on the wrist and offered a job by MSNBC is nil.

ABC News: FBI: Illinois Governor Sought To "Sell" Obama's Senate Seat

The FBI affidavit said Blagojevich had been told by an adviser "the president-elect can get Rod Blagojevich's wife on paid corporate boards in exchange for naming the president-elect's pick to the Senate."

Told by two other advisers he has to "suck it up" for two years, the FBI says it heard Blagojevich complain he has to give this "motherf***er [the president-elect] his senator. F*** him. For nothing? F*** him."

The governor is heard saying he will pick another candidate "before I just give f***ing [Senate Candidate l] a f***ing Senate seat and I don't get anything."

and here I thought only Republican politicians dropped the f-bomb.

This story was front page CNN and doesn't mention it.

We all assume you are outraged by this ommission and you fully deem CNN a propaganda machine.

@lawgator:

For the record, Fox repeatedly stated Obama was not politically close with the governor at all, and there is no evidence of him being involved in this. I think most of the file footage they had of the Illinois governor just happened to be with Obama, as it was part of their Obama file footage. It is an unfortunate bi-product of geography, not an elaborate right-wing conspiracy.

I love this part:

On October 8, Blagojevich told a person described only as "Individual A" that he was willing to make $8 million available for Children's Memorial Hospital, but "I want to get [Hospital Executive 1] for 50."

Individual A felt that Blagojevich was talking about a $50,000 campaign contribution from the hospital's chief executive officer and that the $8 million referred to a recent commitment by Blagojevich to secure state funds via "some type of pediatric care reimbursement."

"Intercepted phone conversations between Rod Blagojevich and others indicate that Rod Blagojevich is contemplating rescinding his commitment of state funds to benefit Children's Memorial Hospital because Hospital Executive 1 has not made a recent campaign contribution," the affidavit says

What a swell guy.
