Mike Hamilton is being ripped on the website dedicated to his termination with the following statement:

"A sub-par baseball program that was a national contender under Rod Delmonico."

Are people who read the baseball thread aware of the state of the program when Rod was fired?

He did not care about APR, but the NCAA did.

He left the baseball program screwed in scholarships in a way that hurt it almost as badly as Fulmer's last two recruiting classes.

I wanted Raleigh fired last year. If he does not get to the NCAAs this year, he is gone. But please tell me that most people know that Delmonico left this program in as good shape as he left the trust of his first wife.

Rod needed to go.

I do find it humorous that you trash him for his marital situation, yet defend Bruce when others call him out on his infidelity.

All names mentioned have been fired or should be fired.

Maybe I am missing something here. Please inform me.

Delmonico took the Vols to the college World Series in 1995, 2001, and 2005. The only other appearance by the Vols was in 1951. Raleigh can't even make the top 8 in the SEC so he can "appear" in the SEC tournament.

And he gets fired in 2007? Not to mention the sons we missed out on playing at UT.

Not sure if his other sons are anything like Tony, but if they are then we are better off. Possibly the biggest jerk I have ever met.

Please... past success has no place on here. We want someone who can win the conference each and every year, and we are willing to lose every game in the mean time until we find that coach. If he cheats and lies to the NCAA it's ok with us, at least until its not, then we'll throw him under the bus too. Mike Hamilton is a genius who has lead our Athletic Program to greatness. We as a fan base should be happy that Mike Hamilton can make money, not hire coaches who can win games. I heard he is trying to run off Pat Summit because of the terrible state of affairs in the women's basketball program last year. I heard he's looking at a coach from Podunk A&M who was 14-18 last year.

The off field part of the program was in shambles. Not to mention he wasn't very consistent in winning, although it's hard to deny 3 CWS appearances from a team not in Florida or on the west coast.

But it was probably the right move, just the wrong hire.

Yeah now we have the off the field stuff and the terrible results on the field...

So one poster in this thread seems to definitely understand the academic problem Rod was bringing.

NYY, I do not believe I have ever defended Bruce's infidelity. I think that is horrible. It also indicates that you are not trustworthy if you break the most sacred promise a person can make.

Ummm... judging someone who lies is pretty hypocritical for anyone to do... he who is without sin cast the first stone... and after they all had left Christ asked the woman accused of adultery if any of her accusers were left... when she said no... he told her to go and sin no more... her sins were forgiven...

Delmonico was the most successful coach we have had. He recruited in places where UT baseball had no reputation or allure.

I was never proud of Ron regardless of his success.

Folks, let's get real.

UT baseball is a very tough sell. Cold, rainy, limited facilities, poor fan support, competing with MiLb, no history of success blah blah blah...our chances of having an ongoing World Series level of program are

  • slim,
  • none,
  • non existent or
  • great if the Almighty God so proclaims.
All of the above are true.

I don't care that much about W-L records, sure, would love to have us in the class of the Cali, Tx and Florida teams (and others) but ferfukksakes, at least hire someone who loves the job, the school and isn't a walking embarASSment to us.

Dump this ASSclown Rolly. Let's move on to someone who we can feel proud!

If we get so lucky to have that person be a stand up guy, and successful, we ought to keep him until he dies from any age.

What? Limited facilities? They have some of the best facilities in the country. The fan support was there in 05 when they were winning. We have the same conditions as Vandy, and they do just fine.

Gotta love excuses.

And those facilities are getting better by the day.

I'm no longer calling him McCleverstein. His new name is Arid McA$$-Steam.

Our baseball facilities, some of the best in the cuntry?

:lolabove:

Get out more. you're daft.

Huge indoor batting cages and bullpens, pristine field, renovated stadium, top of the line indoor practice facility (Thompson), weight rooms, etc. Only thing they're missing is a head coach.

Please tell me what it takes to have better facilities? College baseball teams are lucky if the have their own indoor batting cages. You don't know how good UT has it until you see facilities for teams in the MAC, Sun Belt, etc.

I'd also argue with the no history of success comment. UT has been to the CWS multiple times. If Vanderbilt can build a successful program just down the road with even less history of success then surely UT could do the same with its gigantic athletic budget and the ability to let in some guys who barely qualify as living. Athletes and minimum requirements go together. Of course, good baseball players who want a college education don't always fit that profile. Vanderbilt has the advantage there. Raleigh is a dumbass. No one wants to play for a dumbass unless he wins. He doesn't. It is not too much to ask to at least make the freaking SEC Tournament once in a while.
