Rodney Garner out at Georgia?

Wonder if this is not recruiting noise by another team or by UGA to see who really is theirs of the commits they have.

Really? Not sure where the noise is coming from but it's definitely not a ploy by UGA to figure that out...lol.

That would be like us saying Gran is taking another position somewhere to see which recruits are solid to UT....fail.

According to Mark Richt and staff inside Butts-Mehr, Rodney Garner is still working and part of the UGA staff. Of course, Mark Richt has also commented that he does not know if he will remain part of the staff when the new DC is hired. We certainly would not want to lose Coach Gardner but when these decisions are made, the risk for other coaches to leave always emerges. Let's hope for the best.

from georgia board on espn..sounds like CMR is getting ready to throw CRG to the dawgs one way or another. either way good news for the VOLS:popcorn::popcorn:

Wasn't Garner supposed to come in as our linebacker coach? So, if Thompson leaves.....

My memory could be bad though...

Garner is a D line coach. LT is an EXCELLENT LB coach, and Kiff demands excellence. Garner could be Recruiting Coordinator, but with EO on this staff, D Line is covered by the best in the business. I bet CLK wont go after RG. If you turn CLK down once-----forget it. MARLON

Didn't we try to hire RG after we hired Coach O?

I could see RG to Memphis as DC/RC and money will not be an issue as FedEx's Smith being THE booster and last I heard his son will be a Tiger too.

Yep, but for his recruiting. He was to be EO's assistant, not LB coach. After Kiff hired LT, the recruiting and LB coaching voids were filled. You don't just suddenly become a LB coach if you have been on the D line all your career.

Rodney is a great recruiter. Not sure he is qualified to be a DC. Smith might want to get his money's worth.

Ok, thanks for the clarification. Point is, if Thompson did leave, we would have a spot for him. Thats if Kiffin wants him.

I agree JohnWForever, but I just wonder if Memphis will sacrifice the DC position in order to get the recruits RG can pull.

I would love to see Garner at Memphis for ne reason. It will make recruiting in Georgia, especially Atlanta, much easier for the Vols.

First off, I don't think anyone is leaving after one year. Secondly, If LT were to leave, and Kiff did hire RG, he would still need a LB coach. I know Garner can recruit, but I have never heard anyone rave about his coaching prowess. You have to be a great position coach to be on Kiff's staff.

If I remember correctly, it was mentioned during the whole ordeal that Coach O offered to move to LB coach to let Garner coach the D line here. I'm not 100% on that, but that's what I recall being reported. It might just have been an unsubstantiated rumor, but it's something I read on here. Basically his wife was what nixed the idea since she loves Hotlanta.

That was the deal, but at the time CLK was looking for recruiters. Coach O was going to be the D-line coach when all was said and done. You dont take the best D Line coach in the country and move him to LBS.

You do know that Kiffin tried to hire him, right? Hes obviously good enough for Kiffin's staff if they already tried to hire him.

I would much rather keep LT than lose him and gain RG. But as bad as Georgia's defense has been lately, their D-Line has not been one of the major problems.
