Once again, the issue is not how many homes McCain has. It's that he's out of touch with what's going on. He has so many homes he lost count. He doesn't have to deal with any of that - his wife's fortunes take care of it for him.
That aside, Romney's logic is swiss cheese.
You're stretching the truth. Neither one of these guys have known what the "average guy" in America is going through and haven't for some time now.
McCain didn't know how many homes he owns.
He doesn't know.
Didn't have the answer. About how many homes he owns.
"How many homes do you own?" Pretty simple question. Pretty easy. Not difficult. Most people can keep track of that information. Most people don't have to think about it.
TennNC, he and his wife have many properties, some of them investment and other residences. So he didn't know how many homes he owns! What does that have to do with anything? Does that speak to his judgment? You may think that means he is out of touch with the "average" American and I would agree! That doesn't change the fact that Obama and 99.9% of all politicians are out of touch with the "average" American.
Do you seriously think Michelle and Barrack have to crunch the numbers and do without to make it at the end of every month? My guess is no you don't! Point is neither of our choices are "in touch" with America and anyone that claims otherwise is being intellectually dishonest!
All I can go on is these two candidates judgment, and IMO the guy that has shown the best judgment here is McCain.

Yes but my wife and I are the average American. We do not own investment properties and do not have vacation homes.
I would also add that we did not use Rezco (sp), a fund raiser and political supporter as well as real estate professional who just happens to have been convicted of corruption, and never received a "sweetheart deal" on our home. We know the McCain's properties are on the up and up. There are questions surrounding the Obama's "estate".
I'm not sure properties are a wise debating point for the Obama's.

Let me ask you a question. how many mutual funds do you own in your 401K? better yet how many mutual funds does your wife own in HER 401k? had to think about it didn't you? you probably didn't know the answer right? how is this any different? a) his wife has investment properties, b) they are his WIFE'S properties and he isn't told squat about her investments if her investment advisors are worth their salt. I advise EVERY client I have to keep their property and investments seperate when they marry if they have a sizable net worth. THe day she starts involving Mccain in her investments is the day that he can claim he helped "manage" her investments and can claim a piece of them if they get divorced.
Than would it have been so hard for McCain to respond by saying, "aside from the homes that we have as investment properties we have 'X' homes"? Or "We have 'X' homes, now that doesn't include investment properties that we do not live in."

What if he doesn't deal with these properties? What if they are his wives pet? Would this not be plausible? For the record I don't think his answer looked good but I don't see that this makes him anymore "out of touch" with the common American than any other politician.
let's face it anyone thinking any of these politicians are the "every man" needs to stop smoking the good stuff.
That's why he makes it a point to only give a total for the homes they live in and then, even at a later time, he can explain that the other homes are investment properties.
This is the real point. Neither guy is living the "average guy" life.
Obama's arugula and speaking French comments are as much an indicator of being out of touch as are McCain's comments.

It's all relative. And to answer your earlier question, I'm buying it inasmuch as it helps combat a commonly held view amongst enough voters that Obama is elitist. Compared to McCain, he ain't. He actually started with very little, worked his way up, and spent a good deal of his career helping the least amongst us. He also didn't leave his wife and marry into buttloads of money.
If that charge hadn't been brought against my guy, I wouldn't espouse the other argument against yours.
