Romney: McCain earned his homes; Obama didn't

It's all relative. And to answer your earlier question, I'm buying it inasmuch as it helps combat a commonly held view amongst enough voters that Obama is elitist. Compared to McCain, he ain't. He actually started with very little, worked his way up, and spent a good deal of his career helping the least amongst us. He also didn't leave his wife and marry into buttloads of money.

If that charge hadn't been brought against my guy, I wouldn't espouse the other argument against yours.

The elitist thing about Obama is ridiculous coming from the McCain camp. Wasn't it McCain that said having 5 million was considered rich when asked? 5 million, now that is out of touch.

Remind me how easy it is to grow up in a military family........................

Why does it matter how much money he has?????

Either have no idea what is going on in our world.

to quote my good friend from Delaware, OH, it matters b/c it is all about perception.

Obama is elitist for many reasons. remember his response to the Laffer curve question? he thinks only he knows how to get the economy going, and that massive tax increases on small business owners and heavy industries will somehow create millions of well paying jobs.

His desire to impose universal healthcare completely ignores the fact that UHC has failed miserably in places like Canada and the UK, the two systems he wants to emulate here.

do you know how many homes you own?

how so? Obama seems to think that 250K is rich. Tell me, if you earn 250K and live in NYC, Chicago, or San Francisco are you rich?

As TennNC pointed out being rich or being elitist is all relative. Ask worker in the field he might tell you $50k, now ask Trump and he might tell you 50mil.

let me get back to you on that one.

but, before I do, what's your point? I do have issues with McCain, but none are as frivolous in nature as the handwringing over how many homes and other investment properties (a distinction that is lost on you, TennNC) he and Cindy own.

I know this is a matter of opinion, I can't prove anything by fact here but I think 250K is more in line of where someone would start to be considered rich. I just don't think someone that earns 3.5 or 4 million is not rich. Also, I guess it depends if we're talking net worth or not. You bring up a very good point MG about location too.

I just don't get this idea that if you have made money or access to wealth that somehow you didn't have a hard life or don't understand other people.

I tried to make that point when John Edwards house got brought up several months ago. :)

Since then, Edwards has cheated on his dying wife (or should I say I found out since then) and I wouldn't defend that guy ever again.

So military kids do not have a hard life?

OE, I cant believe you opened yourself to that???? Speaking from experience, military children from higher ranking officers aren't exactly living the hard knock life.

Either party is as guilty as sin by making a living by dividing this country into seperates groups.

I wonder when Nixon's silent majority will finally stand up and say enough is enough and be rid of this garbage we have in government.

Why................ is it nothing to discuss......

It is silly to think simply because his father was an admiral that he had an easy life.

To be fair in this argument, Obama didn't grow up poor either. His mother was in Indonesia for her masters/PHD and he moved on over to hawaii to his grandparents who actually had better than the average mans income. Both grew up about the same money-wise so this is a wash

Do I seem screwed up to you?

:lolabove: I wouldn't know. I just question people who assume that rich kids have it oh so much easier than the rest of the world. Knowing you will never have to work a day in your life creates many a problem trust me. I've always been impressed by any kid who looks beyond that and does something with his life.
