When Ron and Mike Gottfried were together on ESPN this intro brought chills.

" Welcome from the foothills of the Smokies, at Neyland Stadium.......it's different here".

I know what you are saying. Great memories of watching Saturday night game hearing his familiar voice for meaningful games.

There was an amazing YouTube clip from the 04 Auburn game overlooking the tunnel with Franklin narrating as the T opened up.... but it seems to have been taken down.

Franklin and Gottfried were terrific. Before them were my favorites, Chris Schenkel and Bud Wilkinson

Before Franklin and Gottfried I would have to say Keith Jackson and Frank Broyles. But never, never, NEVER will Verne Lundquist make my list.

No doubt they made a great team. They were not together long enough. I thought Bill Curry and Mike Golic were funny.

Who are these guys you speak of? I only listened to John and Bill until 1999.

They were a great ESPN tandem, but it is not so much the broadcasters, but the message.

"foothiils of the Smokies, Neyland at night...............it's different here". The glory years, the Fulmer years. You hear that intro and are not moved, nothing will.

I miss Franklin and Gottfried so much. Also, watching a replay at 2 a.m. after a big win. Those were the days.

I always liked Ron Franklin. Couldn't stand Chris Schenkel. Liked Keith Jackson in his earlier days. Over his final few years in the booth, I thought he tried too hard to be colorful. Brent Musburger is among the worst ever. Verne Lundquist is pretty much useless. Not sure why he has the job. The guy who has done a lot of the UT PPV games is probably the worst play-by-play guy I have ever had the misfortune of listening to. I think his name is Randy Smith. He may be a great guy, but he just doesn't pay attention to the game and/or he just doesn't know/understand the game. Multiple mistakes throughout the entire game. Very frustrating to watch.

One of my favorites from Franklin/Gottfried "This is the best way to quiet 85,000 of your closest, or not so closest friends" after Jay Graham's score in the '95 Bama game.

Yes, I miss Ron Franklin.

I like Brad Nessler a lot. He's pretty even keel and doesn't go overboard.
