1: M. Goins/T. Golden
2: S. Hopson/S. McBee
3: C. Tatum (injured; knee)/J. McRae
4: T. Harris/S. Pearl/K. Hall
5: B. Williams (injured; ankle)/J. Fields/K. Hall

Eligible at Mid-term:
Maymon

Injured:
Bone (quad)

Mike Hubert and Skylar McBee will most likely get minutes at the point as well; but don’t look to be factors to get into the rotation there at this point.

Renaldo Woolridge will probably see some action at the 3 and 4 vs. Brevard, but doesn’t look to figure into the regular rotation.

Tobias Harris will also see some preseason action at the 3 in all likelihood.

I'd love a to see rotation with Harris, Hall, and Williams at the 3, 4, and 5. Not full-time, but i'd like to see it.

no reason for Pearl to be ahead of Hall

It was predictable, once I started reading all of this stuff about Pearl being a senior leader I knew Bruce was going to stick him out there.

I wonder if little Pearl will stick around if big Pearl is fired mid-season?

I'll join the Hall over Pearl bandwagon as well. I'm sure Maymon will end up with some of that PT, and some at the 3 as well.

That's a shame. I like Pearl as a hustle player, but he has no business playing before Hall IMO.

Nice guy - good sense of humor from what I understand - not bad for a walk-on to scrimmage against. A step slow -offensive liability and don't get me started on his free throw shooting. He is also too small to play where they have him playing. The only way I could envision him in front of Hall or on the court for any meaningful minutes would be if somehow his dad was coaching. -- Oh wait a minute.

Let's ask the assistants - who do you guys think should be in there? My son or the other guy? That's what I thought too.

So just kind of wondering, the rotation listed is 11 players and doesn't include bone, maymon or woolridge. So when maymon becomes eligible will he takes pearls spot at forward (I sure hope so). It is starting to look more and more like hall and woolridge are both going to be pretty quiet this year for ut as there really just doesn't appear to be a place for them. It seems to me like playing field as a backup at the 4 and benching pearl would make more sense and just juggling Harris at the 4 brian at the 5 and fields relieving the 2 of them as needed. I just really think we are a much better team with little pearl on the bench. Nothing against him it is just a major taken drop off.

1. Goins/Golden
2. Hopson/McBee
3. Woolridge/McRae
4. Harris/Pearl
5. Fields/Hall

Tatum hasn't practiced in 2 weeks, and I don't think Pearl will start him until he gets some practice time in.

Williams has a sprained ankle and they might hold him out as a precaution.

I forget what's wrong with Bone, but he's been held out of practice also.

Anyway it's an exhibition. Good excuse to rest a couple veterans and get some young guys on the floor.

You seriously think CBP would give a player minutes over another if that player gave him a better chance to win...even if it was his son?

I think McRae starts at the SF to open the season. Tatum is behind and still not 100% back from his knee bruise. Also would allow some upperclassman leadership coming off the bench to provide a spark as a sixth man.

So after the scrimmage last night and hearing pearls comments it sounds like this will be the rotation.

PG: Melvin Goins/Trae Golden
SG: Scotty Hopson/Skylar Mcbee
SF: Jordan McRae/Renaldo Woolridge
(when tatum is healthy expect tatum to start and McRae to back up scotty and cam and basically bump out Woolridge.)
PF: Tobias Harris/Steven Pearl
(from how it sounds when maymon is eligible he will be backing up Tobias and Pearl won't see much time at all.)
C: John Fields/Kenny Hall
(once again expect Brian to start when healthy and fields to back him up and Kenny won't see much time on the floor.)

So when it's all said and done in December with maymon back you will probably see...

PG: Melvin goins/trae golden
SG: Scotty Hopson/skylar Mcbee(very little)
SF: Cam tatum/ Jordan McRae
PF: Tobias Harris/jeronne maymon
C: Brian Williams/ John fields

The only thing I really see that could change would be woolridge impressing and being slid into the 3 and McRae sliding into the 2 spot and bumping out Mcbee. The other thing is pearl could go with a 9 man rotation and have plenty of options with Harris at the 3 for some time and maymon at the 4. However itvworks itself out let's hope for a injury free, EVENT FREE year and go vols!!!

Where is Williams?

Is this a guess, or has Pearl released his initial rotation? I just haven't seen it anywhere else. I think you will see game-to-game matchups dictating a lot of the reserves PT. We can go small with Bone and McBee and go big with Woolridge, Pearl, and Hall. Add Maymon to that second group when he becomes eligible. I think you will see open competition throughout the season for PT in the reserve rotation unless we plan on redshirting McBee or Woolridge.

I dont understand why little Pearl would get significant minutes on a team that is going to need a lot more people stepping up on offense. The defense is going to be sketch anyway and the point totals will be down. Pearl offers very little on offense in my opinion.

The justification for Pearl being the backup 4 over Hall is that Hall is a '5' not a '4'. You can argue and say you dont agree but that is what is going to be used as justification at this point. Pearl has said that he can see Hall getting some minutes at the '4' spot in the future but that he is not ready to play that spot yet.

Pearl is a heady player. He isn't gonna pull up and knock down any jumpers, but he finds his way to a few layups a game, is an excellent hustle player, and a versatile defender. He is a glue guy, and you don't need offensive production from all 5 players on the court. He is our best screener, a very underrated and capable passer from the 4, and his energy is contagious. Pearl has obvious flaws in his game, but I have grown very comfortable with Pearl getting 8-12 minutes a game and providing some toughness. I don't see much of a drop-off in point production for us. Scotty being more consistent, Tobais will get his, and several scorers up and down the line in Cam, J-Mac, Goins, and Golden. Renaldo and McBee are capable of going off as well from trey.
