Rucker tweet, Coach Jones

Jones also dicked over his school and his players by blatantly flying all over the country on UC's time, leaving his team hanging while he strung multiple programs along waiting for a better offer. He actually reneged on a verbal with Colorado when he thought we might be getting desperate enough to hire him. He was callously opportunistic and self-serving and while that might be considered gameplay, it shouldn't be considered any love of UT. The guy just thought he could get the most money, play in the best conference and pad his resume most effectively here. Once again, we're trying to pretty up a pig.

You argueing he hast proven to this point he is a winner????

Its certainly fin discuss he won't win but if you are trying to suggest he hasn't been a winner up until this point your stance is foolish!

Please show me where he has won anything in the SEC, has any ties to the south, or has shown he can recruit.

He won a couple big east championships. Sweet. SEC conference play should be fun to watch.

I am not sure who we could have hired who is a current coach that would not have somehow "dicked over his school and his players." This is business. Look no further than Nick Saban or Urban Meyer if you need to find a good example.

"Butch Jones turned down three FBS offers in three weeks because he had a CHANCE to get the TN job. Tell you what he thinks of TN."

I like it, the tweet that is. I don't know enough about Jones yet to make a rational decision either way, but it's time to support the guy regardless. Coach, go get some recruits and go win some ball games. GBO.

This is not the story that was told at his leaving presser about 20 min ago

Most coaches try to do it on the QT. As I said, it's gameplay, but let's stop pretending that it was anything other than a blatant moneygrab in a better conference. That's the reason he wanted the UT job and I just wish people would stop trying to tint it orange.

Wow, we hire a guy whose defense was worse than ours when we played each other. Now that's saying something. . . not sure what though.

Who cares?! It's a JOB! We got really spoiled having A Vol as a coach for 17 years. That is not the norm. Money and the opportunity to build a program to prominence is exciting to coaches. Butch Jones got lucky...really lucky...but he is taking a bigger risk on us than we are on him. IMO.

Jones is taking a bigger risk than UT? Are you kidding me? UT is a brand worth hundreds of millions of dollars, and another bad hire can cost the university many, many millions for a long time to come. Butch Jones can retire a millionaire off the contract he's getting here, regardless of whether he succeeds or damages the UT program for a decade to come. He could burn the program to the ground and we'd have to pay him millions to go away. The stakes are high and the results matter, so while you may not care, a lot of people care a lot.

I guess it depends on how you see the risk. If you are seeing it as a money thing then yes...he can fail and still be rich. And Tennessee will have to suffer the costly set back. But if you are talking about a life long career then if he swings and misses here, he is gone in 3 years. Likely to not be hired again by anyone anytime soon. But Tennessee will keep playing football and keep hiring coaches until they eventually climb the ranks again. He risks leaving a program that he can be admired by the fans for a program that is welcoming him with disgust.

Those 3 FBS offers were from Colorado, Purdue and KY! :banghead2:

Is he better than DD, of course.

Will he compete with AL, UGA, FL, and SC, doubt it.

Hope I am wrong, but will take another 3 years to find out, and $3Million per year! :banghead2:

Also, if he has to fired in 3 years, we will have a $9mill buyout!

Good points.

Most will choose to ignore the obvious though.

He won't pad his résumé if he doesn't win. Louisville ponied up the money for Strong & he's a great guy for staying. Cinci acted like they didn't give a damn & Jones left. ??????

Jones could strike out miserably here and be hired the next week. Joker Phillips was offered a plum position at UF immediately after tanking at UK. Many would argue that Joker failed upward, even though he's no longer HC. Jones can set this program back a decade, then head off to another job paying millions, with our buyout in his back pocket. Hopefully, it won't come to that. On the risk-reward continuum, UT assumed too much downside risk for limited upside, IMO. Jones' situation is the opposite, and it's hard to fault the guy for making a good decision for himself. We'll see how it turns out for us.

Welcome Coach Butch Jones!! VFL!! check out the utube video on coach Jones!! if he brings 1/2 of this passion to UT. He'll crush it:dance2::rock:

Screw all this negative crap! If he builds a solid team, coaches them up, then has them play hard with emotion, I'll take it! Welcome to Big Orange country Coach!
