Having someone from the intelligence community take over as SecDef could be very good for OIF and OEF. If that rumor is true, then I can be pleased.

does it matter? the Dems haven't even taken over Congress yet and already they're gathering like sharks to a feeding frenzy.

but, the next person is likely John Bolton. The Dems are terrified of him. Which is a shame, since their "return to Constitutional Government" platform should include someone who doesn't kiss the UN's rear end. That's not going to happen and Bush will be forced to appoint some turd like Joe Wilson to represent the US at the UN.

MG, do you believe George W has done a good job as president to this point?

I think certain aspects of his presidency have been good. As a fiscal conservative, I like the tax cuts, but I hate the huge governement programs he passed. I also like his judicial appointments, with the exception of Harriet Myers. His leadership during war time hasn't been exceptional, but I don't believe he's received the best advice either.

Is he Reagan? Hell no. Is he a good politician? Well, he's certainly no Bill Clinton, but he did get re-elected and maintained GOP majorities in Congress until just two days ago.

Yes. His reform of the UN is going over so well now. What has he accomplished?

you know, cspin, one man against the tide is usually a losing proposition. would you rather have someone there who kisses up to such paradises as Zimbabwe and Angola?

You don't have to kiss up OR piss them all off. Again as I said, what has he done since he's been there? All I heard is how he was going to clean house. Now he cannot get a meeting to start on time.

He's had a damn good time! I believe he's logged the most vacation hours of any US President.

Who wants to go fishin'?

He likes to go back to Texas and clear brush. It's kind of like clearing his mind of those tumbleweeds..

To the title of this thread, all I can say is Praise God! I'm just glad that his return to the private sector will not protect him from congressional subpoena.

If I was a Republican who just lost a close race based on my support of the Bush Administration, I would be highly PO'd at the timing of this.

And many are. But I think this could work in reverse. All of those who are adamantly supportive of Rumsfeld and the war in Iraq would have been wounded over this move as Bush turning his whole rationale into some political issue to win an election would be less energized as well. I think the effects could have gone either way.
