Anybody here with a clue knew that if USC offered him, he was gone.

The shock at the time was that USC actually offered him.

I figured he was getting offer and would take it. Especially after hearing what was going on and who they were going to go after. Fisher and Del Rio would be fools to leave the NFL. JMO

The mattress burners were the same people that expected UT to win the East this year. They were also shocked and appalled when Dane Bradshaw wasn't taken as the 1st pick in the NBA draft. I realize everyone can say whatever they want now, but I was more shocked when UT hired Kiffin than when USC hired him.

I wasn't. After the mess Fulmer left for us, Kiffin was a stellar hire because of the staff he was bringing along. I defy anybody to name a better group of recruiters and coaches we could have signed.

I was, however, shocked at USC reaching out to him. We knew that they were going to be in some hot water, but any coach worth his salt can still have USC competing for Pac-10 titles even when they're on probation. They could have picked up somebody much better.
