C - Brian Williams
PF - Jeronne Maymon
SF - Tobias Harris
SG - Scotty Hopson
PG - Melvin Goins

Obviously the only real surprise would be Maymon. Also, McRae can handle the ball and will be given a chance to see what he can do at point. If Golden proves to be a solid backup there then McRae may redshirt.

Pearl must favor husky guys....or some people who mocked me for being excited about maymon had no idea what they were talking about and there is a good reason he was highly touted coming out of hs

I believe this team has the potential to be very good.
I'm a big believer in team chemistry so we'll see how this works out. We'll be deep off the bench also so many will get playing time. You know how Bruce likes to pressure and try to keep'em fresh.
Anyway it should be an interesting year for the Vols.
GO VOLS!

Maymon? Has he progressed quite a bit? I thought I read some posters on here saying he would be a career back up.

Also, what are your guesses on the back-ups?

I doubt Maymon just comes in midway through the OOC and jumps in. If that's the case, it will mean this team is in some serious trouble.

Uga and UK and uf should have solid frontcourts. With maymon and fields we have some toughness We have lacked since duke crews was booted. Charles Hathaway and CJ black were tough on defense way back in the day.

Dang. I don't think we've ever had the depth we have this year. Even with the Lofton and Smiths team. We could be in for a very pleasant surpise.

Who's going to stop him from doing it? Renaldo Woolridge? Fields or Hall don't fit the PF position that Pearl likes. And unless Tatum proves he can stay healthy or McRae can exceed expecations of him in the first 2 months of the season, then we will see Tobias at the 3 and Maymon at the 4.

This would be the starting lineup now if Maymon were eligible. Since he's not, Tatum will start at the 3 and Tobias at the 4. Tatum starts having knee issues again and/or doesn't produce enough, then Maymon will be given the shot to start at the 4. Unless ofcourse, Woolridge takes a giant step forward in the next couple of months.

If you look back at the roster we had when we were ranked number #1, then compare it to this roster, we have the talent to be great this season. I don't like having so many question marks to begin the season, but we have a solid group of core guys. I can't wait to see these guys battle with other teams this year!

Hall and Fields will see spot time at the 4. But that won't be the starting lineup. If Maymon, with his toughness, can provide what Duke Crews did as a starter, that would be enough.

Why do people keep talking about McRae running the point? Yes, he would make a helluva PG if he has the handles, attitude, and vision, but we have him as a backup SG/wing. Officially, he will be the backup SG. Trae is backup PG. I'm sure Bruce will experiment with a lot of things, including letting McRae run the point a bit, but unless something very unexpected happens, he will neither be the backup PG nor redshirted.

McRae's only shot to play significant minutes this year is at the point. No point of having him and Tatum coming off the bench playing the same position. This is assuming Tatum is healthy.

Seriously, what are you talking about? Tatum will be a starter. McRae will be backing up SCOTTY. Maybe Tatum too, don't know yet. Melvin is starting PG and Trae is backup.

If you think McRae's only real minutes come at the point, who do you think is back up SG? Bone, McBee, Hubert? No....
