Rumor- Richt stepping down

Richt pretty much just killed this.

@SethEmerson: Mark Richt laughed when asked about retirement rumors. Is he coming back? "That's the plan," Richt said.

Having UGA as a main rival is a blast. Makes beating them mean that much more for your program. You want your rivals to be great so you'll be great when you beat them.

It would be nice to have it like the 1990s where the only competition to UT was Alabama and Florida.

If there is one program that we need to be down it would be UGA...state is too important to us in recruiting

No,i'd rather have UGA regress to Ray Goff-Jim Donnan levels.

You realize both of those coaches would have gotten a contract extension at UT if you put their results in place of Dooley's, right? Goff even won 10 games once. Both finished with a winning record.

Goff - 46-34-1
Donnan - 40-19

Dooley would still be at UT if he had a win/loss record like either of those.

Will never be like that again. Kids today have seen UGA kick UT's teeth in too many times over the past 15 years. If anything, it's amazing that we still have any pull with recruits in Georgia. None of the kids in the past two or three recruiting classes have seen UT with a good football team.

Guarantee another SEC school put that out there for recruiting purposes.

Richt is one bad season from being out the door, IMO. He is a good guy, and I could see him eventually giving up coaching, and doing a faith based inspirational speaking tour, but....I don't know. He'll ride it out a little longer.

I agree that if the right coach came in at Georgia, they'd actually be scary. Georgia is like that dog that it doesn't matter how loud and ferociously they bark, you know they'll never bite. I don't think Georgia ever wins a National Championship while Richt is there, and I doubt they ever win another SEC Championship.

I think Georgia's success recently has been the fact that the East has been down for a few years now. Florida hasn't been the same since Tebow left, we haven't been the same since 2007, South Carolina is going down quickly, though they were rarely up....and then Vandy and Kentucky are not worth mentioning.

Richt is doing just enough to stay around. But their time is coming. We'll put them down next year.

We have been in a slide the past fifteen years, but it's not like that series hasn't been competitive. I only count two years (2003 and 2010) that have been blowouts on the part of UGA. As well as two that have been blowouts on our part.

So I don't think we've quite gotten our teeth kicked in like you claim. Most of the games have been hard fought affairs that were settled by two scores or less.

USC will drop back to the level they were 2002-2006.

We will! And your pessimism sickens me.

Dumb rumor. The AD won't put their program through hell like that. Their recruiting class would implode and they would find themselves in a huge hole trying to find a quality head coach this late in the game.

Hopefully UGA gets to implode soon like Tennessee did in 2010-2012

If these programs keep firing coaches that win 80-90% of their games then, I'd wager not many would want to risk coming to them and coaching, and if they do everyone will be of the mindset that they will be out in 2-3 years anyway and jump to the next opportunity at first glance. As a fan, I'd rather my team be on the verge of championships then be on the verge just to make a bowl.
