that Bruce might have a surprise commitment for this '08 class from a "highly rated post player."

I doubt this is for real, but with nothing going on with UT for 3 more months, it's fun to think about.

Aminu?
Riek?

I apologize ahead of time because I know this comes up every single time, but does the team have another scholarship to give for '08?

Minus a transfer anyway.

Childress would have to hit the road. I don't believe the rumor at all. Just some random dude on volquest. It can't be riek. Dude is going to the draft. If its Aminu, i will poop(better vader?) my pants. But i don't really know much about aminu's situation with Wake. Hasn't he already signed?

Childress was what I was thinking, but I can't give you a clue as to Aminu's situation as I thought he was signed already. Guess we shall see. VIA seems to have gotten a few of the rumors correct lately.

"Riek is a possibility though if we pulled him it would be completely out of our hind parts."

Yeah, pretty much. It would also put us in the odd position of having no seniors next year (if Childress were to leave). Recruiting would be more difficult if they don't know how many players are leaving early next year. That's a problem that I'm sure we're willing to shoulder though.

I would be very excited to get Riek. But, I also want to see Childress enjoy his well-deserved Senior Day. So, I'm not getting excited about Riek or any other incoming player until we have something concrete, because I'll be happy about our team either way.

I think we can all agree that toward the end of the year Ryan's lack of ability caught up with him. I dont see him on the court much next year if at all. If he wants to play, it might be in his best interests to move on.

Ater Majok is another big man with upside still out there, perhaps this could be the big surprise. Riek would be an amazing get as well

Riek would be an amazing pickup. He would start from day 1 at center and allow Chism to play the 4 and Tyler(if he stays) to play the 3. Williams would backup Riek and Crews would back up Chism. Jurick would probably redshirt. I could see Childress moving on since he has graduated(I think), is married(or going to), and plays very sparingly. In the least, he would probably part with his scholly. It wouldn't hurt us with the 09 class either since Riek is a one and done guy if he does go to college. Our depth would be pretty damn stout:

1-Ramar/Prince/West?
2-Hopson/Tatum/Tabb?
3-Tyler/Prince/Woolridge?
4-Chism/Crews/Pearl?
5-Riek/Williams/Jurick?

I know Pearl wouldn't want a 14 player rotation and he would probably try to start Prince somewhere, but wow. Jurick would probably redshirt as would Woolridge but it is nice to have players like that on the depth chart as third team players. I could also see our entire starting 5 playing in the NBA as early as 09 in that scenario. I loved Jajuan and Lofton but tell me how last year's team would be better than this year's team if that happened. Keep in mind, that is a huge pipe dream at most.

Like I said in the initial post, I believe this is nothing, but it's fun to imagine. Harris is a guy I thought of, as well as Witherspoon.

It doesn't matter anyways. Riek is going pro for sure. I don't think we would take Witherspoon. He isn't a top level player which I think we would have to take at this point. Unless there is some huge shocker, Pearl wouldn't take anyone else in this class.

After watching Witherspon at the JBC I think he is one of the top sleepers in this class. He is a more polished Woolridge IMO.

from si:
• Last October, Winchendon (Mass.) School coach Mike Byrnes talked about his star center John Riek's plans to play out the season, participate in a few all-star games and then decide whether to pursue the NBA or choose a college. After a lackluster season, a few injuries and questions about his ability to make the NBA jump, Riek departed Winchendon after spring break last month and is now working out at the IMG Academy in Florida. "He's moving much better than he was during the season," says one college coach who recently stopped in to see a workout. "I'm not sure he is NBA ready, though."
