We know Georgias Gurley has an injury. But so does our own Marlin Lane. Would you prefer to play against Georgias best regardless of outcome. Or would you be for a hypothetical sacrificial tradeoff to keep their best player off the field. I for one think Marlin is our best running back, but if given oppurtunity to hold him out in theory that Gurley sits out too. Then sorry Marlin you have to sit. Especially since SEC travel rules only allow road team to bring 70 so they will have to make a roster decision. Just water cooler stuff. Obviously I think Gurley plays no matter what and I hope Marlin does unless he could worsen his condition. We will need him healthy for those tossup games on our schedule.

Marshall and Green are still better than Lane and Neal.

That may be true but Gurley is elite. Marshall is really good but not elite. Our defense will not have anything left in 4th quarter if Gurley plays up to his 100% potential imo. He is a special player. For the record I hope he doesn't play against us but heals and tskes advantage of his talents evetually to the NFL. Never want to see a kid with that kind of talent not be able to capitalize off it.

Gurley is a beast no doubt however we have nothing on defense that leads me to believe we can contain the edges for any of their RB's. I really hope I'm wrong and they have been keeping Maggitt out just for this game and he and Vereen light it up.

Neal had a great rushing game against South Alabama, and their rush defense isn't bad at all (I believe ranked in the top 60-70ish). If Neal can have a game like that again, we'll be okay.

You think Maggitt plays? I figured he would redshirt at this point.

Fair analysis.

I don't know, I'm hoping. But a redshirt might be better in the long run. I think Maggitt gives us some speed on the edge, something we desperately need. JRM might also give us that in the future, but I think he needs a bit of time in the weight room to handle SEC RB's.

I seem to remember Marshall looking fairly elite on a few plays against us last year.

Both of their backs are elite but having less of them is almost never a bad thing. That said there's a saying "better the devil you know than the devil you don't". We had tons of film on Gurley this year to know how they'd use him. Lots of highlights too, lol.

FYI they have a white full back they call white lightening and he doles out some punishing runs. Saw him showcased at the end of the SC game. Kids nasty.

hate to say it, but Marshall is the best back we will have seen. Gurley being out isn't going to make much of a difference. Having Lane wouldn't either. GA is possibly the best team in the SEC this year. We're going to get stomped. But on the bright side, Butch is recruiting us back to relevance and GA better enjoy it while they can. Won't be long before they fear us again.

I think all of their backs that seem to play are elite or at least they were last year (think there is 3 or 4) and we have a couple of decent work horse backs, but nothing like theirs. I have a feeling we are going to see a lot of 7-8 in the box to stop the run so that Worley has to beat them.

Any Richt coached team is beatable. The only fear I have is that Dooley gave them all they could handle last year and this team remembers that. A second thing that doesnt bode well for us is that they were able to slow LSU's run game.

Easier to look that way after a defense has grown tired of attempting to tackle Gurley. Marshall is good but not 1st round NFL good. Every scout says Gurley will be an automatic if can avoid major injury.

Good post. I think the highlighted is our biggest problem on D aside from the lack of depth!
