Many have expressed displeasure with the results of the running game so far this year, myself included. Last year, however, the team had the most rushing yards since the '04 group. I believe that the veteran oline last year didn't get enough credit for that, considering the almost complete lack of a down field passing game for a great majority of the year. I believe once the young oline begins to hit its stride, the worries about running out of the read option will subside. Thoughts?

Last years line was fine and UT's running game was good. Also low # of sacks the line gave up. UT had poor QB play and avg. running backs last year is what held the offense back. This year it has flipped and UT will need to gel/grow up fast on the "O" line.

This is what I visualize when reading about our preseason expectations (dance) vs actual season results.

I would say we had average QB play after Worley got hurt and average receivers. We had good RBs last year. The problem is when you only have one really good WR who also happened to be a true freshman its easy for a defense to shut that down.

I would of liked to see Hurd behind last years line. Neal had problems getting past the second level or breaking tackles. Neal and Lane were avg. last year and Neal should thank the line for the yards that he got.

Well you may think they were average but they had the most successful season running the ball in almost a decade. Stats dont lie.

All I will add to this debate is this, if we had a Gurley, Mike Davis, Melvin Gordon, or Yeldon on our team they would have had 1500 yards plus last year if they stayed healthy. Neal was at best an above average RB who played with a huge heart but was never a threat to go the distance against great teams. I love Neal, dude's a true VFL after all he endured here, but his stats were padded due to a great o-line and terrible QB play that forced us to run the ball over and over again.

I personally don't like the option and think it's too easily defended against, but if they can make it work i'll never complain about how they get yards.

I hate it.

But eventually will love it. The more familiar they get with the offense the better it will be.

I say that because of teams like Mizzou and Oregon didn't get to be where they are over night.

Isn't Miami putting in a read option in at least some their sets? Well, wherever the coach from Philadephia went. They don 't use it exclusively though. It does work but it's a personnel thing if you ask me. We also need a power set and a three tight end set.

The ONLY WAY our read option will ever work effectively is if Worrley pulls the ball and runs more ofter. Absolutely necessary to work better.

Many would disagree with average QB play after Worley's injury including me.

There is little doubt in my mind that if just part of last years Oline returned this is an 8 win team. If the entire line was back I don't think 10 would be unreasonable.
This line will struggle.

Disagree. Neal was a solid back for us last year. 1,000+ yds in this conference is no easy feat.

We had below average qb play last year with worley, and after worley. we have average qb play for worley this year.

LOL Worley runs for downs very successfully. He's already done it a couple of times this year. He's just sneaky about it.
