Rushing the field was dumb.

I’m not one for policing how other people enjoy themselves as long as they aren’t causing too much trouble. Normally, 100k in damages would rise to the level of “not harmless” but given the number of people involved, it’s really not that much per person.

That said, I fully expect Danny White to have people walking around the celebration next time like this:

Yeah. Two years ago it made sense given the bent up frustration of 15 years of futility. I still think it’s dumb to destroy the property of your own program, but the first time was at least somewhat understandable. This time though it was just kind of dumb all around IMO. But fans are gonna do what they do 🤷‍♂️
As I had my back to the field helping fans around me light their cigars my 7 yr old tugged on me and asked “why are we rushing the field we just beat them 2 years ago?” I said “we’re not buddy” and he yelled “look”! I turned around in dismay. A kid had more sense than a few thousand folks that this game didn’t justify the reaction.

Good thing we won and rushed the field. The fans who opted not to go, have to be upset about something. I’d hate to see the board had we lost and the field was intact.

Don’t watch the Dylan Sampson video with fans….they cuss. Wouldn’t want those clutching the pearls to be triggered anymore after a nice win.
Agreed
I have participated in one field rush in 98 after the UF win. It made sense at the time because we ended a five game losing streak against a superior program. Last night’s rush probably doesn’t happen if we lead from start to finish.

You may want to revisit your post. As you said, pretty early to be a DA. Sorry we won!

I know what I said. You’re running your mouth about who went to the game and replying to my posts with things that were not said.

Were the recruits invited onto the field? If you don’t know this, stop running your ignorant mouth because it’s a yes or no question. It’s not meant to be complicated either. So far you’re the only fool confused by it’s simplicity.

Was anyone invited on the field? The answer is no. That’s why they stormed it. Sorry you missed a great opportunity. Coach and players loved it! Sorry we won again. You’re right, it’s not complicated.

Im not sure this win warranted a field storming but whatever. 2022 was different, last second field goal for first win in nearly twenty years against a legendary coach.

The broadcast didn’t even show this, they just showed players celebrating in the student section.

Thank you for understanding and I’m glad we could get than answered, eventually.

There was no understanding. You stated those recruits could easily go to Bama…they could also go to Vandy, Boise St or Elon. Not sure you understand how many recruits are at games. We lose more than we get.

We just beat Deboer’s Alabama for the first time!
We just played Deboer’s Alabama for the first time..

This is what I came across on my Apple News feed this morning:

How much will Tennessee pay Alabama football in field rush fine? — AL.com

While Tennessee and Alabama football teams went through their typical post game formalities, the student section stood calm as “Dixieland Delight”played over the loudspeakers. On the opposite end of the stadium in the north end zone, a bunch of presumably older people were rolling over the wall and then lumbering to center field as the PA announcer demanded fans to stay off the field.

What the heck is going on?!

Well, the students did eventually follow suit and it became a prettier sight as the heavier, older fans tore down the field goal posts in much more haste than the younger students who tore down the posts two years ago. That and it’s possible the posts are made of different material than before.

What I don’t like is The University of Tennessee has to pay The University of Alabama. Alabama is still very much in the playoffs hunt (with a win over top 5 Georgia) and now they have been paid $100,000 for the second time in 3 weeks, for absolutely nothing. They did nothing to earn that payment from our school. Deboer has never even beaten Tennessee!

The next time our fans just really want to run onto the field, it’s going to cost us a lot more. It would have been nice to save $100,000 for Kirby Smart’s bulldogs or maybe even a basketball win over a #1 ranked team, someday. From here on out, our fines become a talent fee for our rivals. Only if increases significantly.
Our student section joined the recruits that started it and then everyone followed. If the recruits thought it was fine it's fine with me.

I feel like I have seen schools with a hinged goal post they can lay down as soon as the game is over to keep fans from tearing them down. It might be a good investment for Danny White.

Point of order: It's not $100k, it's $250k. Fortunately, it stops going up at 500k.

I think it's a bad rule. The rule is mostly just creating incentive to break a rule and that's all it's doing.

This is where I was going with that: I am not so concerned as just curious.

I remember a certain Boo Carter taking a visit to Colorado, supposedly trying to recruit players to Tennessee. If a kid and his dozen family members know they’re going to commit to Alabama and can cause Tennessee to have to pay Alabama half a million dollars, that does not sit well with me as a TN fan. Just saying.

Aside from that point: I was asking if the recruits were invited onto the field after the game - maybe they jumped the wall in a moment of excitement. That does not mean they stormed the field. It just created confusion which led to other people storming the field and that would be the athletic department’s fault for the confusion.

I realize that this is speculation and doesn’t mean anything.

It was stupid. In 2022, it was an awesome scene about shaking off demons. This celebration was just embarrassing. Let Vandy storm the field. Act like you’ve been there before.

I see no issue with it. It’s still a big time game and a huge rivalry. Let fans enjoy themselves. Out of all the things to complain about, fans rushing the field after a huge win over a rival is not one to worry about. You act like 100k is a lot of money. It’s not. We aren’t poverty U.

The increasing fines is kind of bad. It’s bad enough that we have to replace field goals before we pay the other team.

But field rushing is fun. Without the fines, I don’t see anything but good fun.
