Recently just docked a ship in Havana, Cuba that went undetected by any of our subs or radars. Also, There was Russian attacks on embassies today.

I surely hope Obama doesn't piss off the President of Russia with them meeting Tomarrow.

Obama needs to get his nose out of Russias business. This is their problem, let them deal with it.

When the Soviet Union fell apart, Ukraine ended up with enough nuclear weapons to give them the third-largest stockpile in the world. In order to persuade Ukraine to give them up, the United States, United Kingdom, and Russia all signed a treaty promising that Ukranian territory would be inviolate. Russia just broke that treaty. This is our business.

So just because of that you would be ok with us entering a military engagement with Russia?

This. They basically gave up their ability to obliterate much of Europe with their nuclear arsenal to have closer ties to the US & Europe. Because they were willing to give up their stockpile, we agreed to protect them. Russia just gave us (and the UK) the finger.

We aren't going to start a shooting war with Russia over Ukraine any more than they would go to war with us if we invaded Mexico. There's still stuff that we and the Europeans can do to make Putin's life uncomfortable and torpedo his economy. The only two options are not "invade" and "ignore it."

Given that over 50% of Russia's economy is predicated on energy (oil), selective sanctions can be very effective in persuading them to leave the peninsula region of Ukraine.

We know the location of every Russian surface ship at all times. We also know the location of all Russian nuke subs practically at all times. Subs go undetected for very short periods (hours not days).

Miltary personal stated they didn't know a ship was docking nor that one was in the area. Just passing along what was reported.

What about nuclear subs? Can't they go undetected for long periods of time?

There's no chance that a Russian ship sailed into Cuba without our military being aware of it. It's been reported as a "mystery ship" in the media because neither Russia nor Cuba said anything about it, but there's no way our navy didn't know it was there.

Quiet yes, but not impossible to detect especially the Russian models from what I understand. My info is a bit dated though.

Akulas are very easy to detect now and their bulk of their fleet, the Yasen class, was developed from tech beginning in the early 80's................you can hear them from a mile away. The new Borey class is scary though

I wouldn't be so sure about there not being a chance if it were a sub.

IF it came to an armed conflict, then we would haveno option but to honor the terms of the treaty and defend Ukraine. If we didn't, thenour credibility would be lost and no one would ever enter into a treaty with us again.

But as was stated, there's a lot that comes before armed conflict.

This is not a submarine.

So will the economic sanctions on Russia impact our economy? I read last night Wall Street was expecting a large hit this week.

Late edit
Never mind

Oil and gas are already rising. And the Dow dipped yesterday. Probably more to come.
