Rutgers 2020 QB?

We had to lose to Georgia state, and to BYU before it was considered. Not saying we lost those games solely because of Guarantano, but It had to do a lot with him. It’d be nice to have our qb set in stone before the Florida game.
I’d guess that about 5% of true freshman QBs play in September. It just takes awhile to learn enough of the offense and get used to the speed.

Sorry whatever he decides is fine by me. As one poster said so tactfully if he stays I’ll hope he plays better as every player I hope does the next year. If he transfer I hope he also does well bd or whoever it is unless they play us.

But I can’t stand when people try to bait people on social media. I can’t know his intent for sure, but sure seems like he’s trying to stick his finger in the wind and see if enough people want to tell him how much they want him to stay or not.

Just talk with the coaches and your family and make your decision.

But I’m more old school that way. That’s one thing I hate about social media.

I love when people say this as if they know that Jg was declared untouchable. As if they know that because JG won the competition it definitely couldn't have been fair. Confirmation Bias much?

So are you saying in games played maurer and shrout were not on a shorter leash than jg?

He is technically the starter unless he screws up so much he has to be pulled. If he can't take the mental aspect of it is tired of the fan criticism, then yes, I suppose he should leave.

But why go play somewhere else? Does his odds of playing in the NFL increase...no, especially if he goes and plays for Rutgers. He has a good setup here. Good exposure. A good coordinator. Good receivers. A good run game. And a team that is only getting better and playing more complimentary football.

Maybe he wants a masters degree somewhere..if not, just hang it up.

I hope he stays and competes for the job. I like JG. Dude's tough. He's been through hell with staff and coordinator changes. He's had two head coaches and three different offensive coordinators in every season of his college career. The defense gave up 38 points to ga state and 29 to byu, so can't plant those catastrophes solely on him. Is he my all-time favorite? Of course not. But I hope he sticks around and finishes his career at UT

Peterman redshirted the season before...true story.

Exactly, and he pissed down his leg because he wasn't ready even as a redshirt freshman. Also, a true story.. I am glad we agree. Haha

Eventually he transferred to another school and later succeeded. Now he is an NFL quarterback and succeeded with a college team not clad in orange. Now, much of this speaks to b.j. and his inability to develop players or understand the game. But I am using it to prove a point that throwing a kid into the fire that isn't ready does way more harm than good. Just because they are highly recruited doesn't mean they will definitely be ready day 1.

We already have better.
And Bailey is better as well.

Happy Trails JG!

He's the most frustrating player in the history of Vol football..
I have to agree with the statement that JG is one of the most frustrating players in UT history. I have to admit I was never a huge fan, but wished him well and kept hoping he would turn the corner. He always seems to take 3 steps forward and then 2 (or sometimes 4) back. Watching him play in person as well as on TV, I just recall seeing so many balls overthrown and hearing announcers comment on him being late on a throw. Is he a tough player? No doubt he has taken a lot of punishment in his UT career and always got up off the mat. The frustrating part is that he seems to regress so much at times when repetition and experience should be taking him in the opposite direction. Does he love UT? I have to say yes to that as well. Please don't start with thea rgument that he has had x number of coaches and coordinators in his career at UT. He misses too many throws that should be automatic for a quality QB at a big time school. If he goes, I for one thank him for his time at UT and wish him well. If he stays, he should be evaluated straight up with the other QBs, and then see what happens when the lights come on. We know that practice is practice, and gametime is different. JG has done things to help us win games, but as far as being a premier QG in the SEC, my non professional opinion is no. It is time to move on to the next signal caller at Tennessee. If coach Pruitt decides otherwise, I will cheer for the team as always and hope for the best.

I want him back. If he goes, he will probably have the best year ever and our offense will struggle even worse and those saying good riddance will be complaining because the coaches did not try hard enough to keep him. That is what Tennessee does. Just consider that Alabama let Hurts go and Georgia let Fields go - and who was in the playoffs ... Not those two schools.

Bama did not miss the playoffs because Hurts left they missed because Tua was hurt. UGA tried Fields last year and it was a miserable failure. UGA missed the playoffs because their D was way overrated.

JG isnt dumb. In my OPINION (i make a living reading verbal and non verbal signs in people) that said this is my opinion again. I believe JG is a me first player who is smart enough to garner positive attention thru the media. I saw the game and watched his face on the sideline...his face was always neutral...no emotion...typically one would show disappointment or an overabundance (forced) of support....again this is my Opinion. I have other reason to believe he is disingenuous... so flame away. I hope the man success wherever he goes. But for TN to take the next step it should be without JG
I think this is a good observation and I agree with what you are saying.

Guess he got ready after Chaney took over at Pitt. 😏

What are your other reasons to believe he is "disingenuous"and "me first"? Because facial expressions vary by player/personality type.. if you're going to use those words to describe him you should definitely have more reasons. The kid has taken a beating physically and through the media/fans ( some definitely warranted).

That's a whole lot of tearing down a guy while trying to act like you arent. Are you one of those guys that says: " With all due respect" right before you say some of the most disrespectful stuff ever uttered?
If you consider that tearing down then you're going to have a really tough time in this world.

Ignore him he like to think he knows football but couldnt understand and identify a basic prevent defense as identified by NFL QBs
It was 2 man all day. Where in the broadcast did anyone use the term prevent? I never heard it. But maybe marriage counselors listen better.

So it appears with your football knowledge you don't see the late throws, poor redzone performance, overthrows, hardly ever hitting receiver in stride. These things anyone should be able to see. I am really for whatever qb gives us the best chance to step up to the next level whoever it is.
I saw all those things done by JG since the shooting game

No they alluded to it but did not use those words exactly.... but apparently we"marriage counselors " can see a prevent defense

that's exactly what they've done. And even make excuses that's JG's fault caused defensive problems. JG didn't give up that 65 yd. pass with 21 seconds left and no time outs either.

If HB becomes the obvious starter this spring as some of you expect, then I would not be surprised if 2 QBs transfer.
