5.) On the post up drills, if Polynice had actually played defense, Woolridge would have never got a shot off.

It looked to me like Polynice was pushing against Woolridge's hip with both hands. Made me think the point of the drill was to teach him to keep control of the ball and his body, and basically get the high ground, against physical post defense.

What bothered me is that both of them knew that Polynice was going to play the high side allowing Woolridge to just turn baseline and shoot a hook. That doesn't teach anything. If he'd been mixing up the coverages forcing Woolridge to turn different ways and utilize more moves, it might have been beneficial. To me, it looked like an 8th grade coach introducing a player to a jump hook.

I hope he does good...I like the kid...

I agree. He is a good guy and wish nothing but the best for him. I think if he applies himself as hard to bb as much as he does with his music, he may end up being a decent div 1 bb player.

Unfortunately, that's where Woolridge is at this point.

Maybe we have a Marcus Haislip type of change on our hands here...from nowhere to a lottery pick. It only takes one good season. I wish him the best.

I will go on record right now as saying Renaldo will be our leading scorer next year.

you are wrong.

this workout completely sucks. i understand why he had to speed it up in the editor. he looks like he's going half ass the whole time. he doesn't look like he's pushing himself or playing in game speed. he's wasting his time if he thinks workouts like that are accomplishing anything at all.

The difference in athletic ability between those two is like the difference in 'good looks' between Jennifer Lopez and Roseanne Barr.

I don't know that simple is bad. If you're watching the playoffs, I think one of the main things that separate pros from college players is this: if a pro gets an unguarded look from 15 feet, it's nearly automatic.

Pros do the simple things well. They make open shots, they position correctly, they use their body efficiently.

One mistake coaches at low levels make is to make drills complicated. What you need to do with a drill is teach ONE thing, and teach it right, and then repeat it a bunch.

Now, what Renaldo/Polynice were doing is not entirely clear to me. Maybe it was good, maybe not. But it's possible that they were just repeating a drill for how to back a guy down against pressure and then spin the other way.

That kind of drill definitely has its place, in general (dunno about this specific one, I'm speaking in general terms).

More Woolridge Facebook stuff:
(Status)
"Would the VOL fans like it if me and Swiperboy Entertainment's r&b singer [person's name removed] released a new song next week welcoming Coach Martin & the whole bball staff?"

(In response to a compliment)
"Thanks man. Im ready to step up for everyone. Im ready for the new beginning with Coach Martin. Its just the start for all of us."

No reason in hating on him for this - you saw like what? One days workout/drill session.. so what? You have no idea what he may or may not be doing every day and every session. Or if this was his first day working with the guy.. etc.

I'm not hating on him; he needs to be working hard. I just gave my honest opinion of how I felt he looked in the "NBA" workout.

I actually think that if he stops thinking he is a pure shooter and becomes more agressive driving to the basket, he will be at least 2nd team all SEC next year.

And maybe McBee will win the defensive player of the year next year as well.
