Im sure if you go to S. Louisiana and ask most people if the consider themselves a ******* at least 80% or more would say yes. I consider myself one, born and raised on the water right outside of New Orleans. Im sure there will always be someone to get "offended" though.

I lived in mid-LA in the middle of no where for two years. Sticks at Ft. Polk. Heard ******** used amongst friends all of the time. Now, let a yankee come down and say it and you have yourself a different ballgame.

This guy is an absolute bozo. He goes before a group of writers and tells a joke about Lousianna Cajuns using a slur ethnic word and then trys to defend himself by claiming he was only repeating what a friend told him. This guy has already proved he is a liar; now apparently he thinks nothing about getting down in the gutter in his personal life as well. I'll it again - LSU/Auburn will run his ass out of the SEC within 4 years because 4 years from now Alabama will be no better than the 3rd best team in the SEC west. BTW, I think Tennessee will continue beating Alabama consistently even with Saban there.

It's crazy; a lot of people say never use the term Indian, but I have a patient that helps put on the local pow wows, and he refers to himself as an Indian.

familiar with southern Louisana. Its a term cajuns call themselves. I had a very close cajun friend at UT and he often referred to himself and his cajun friends as coonasses. No insult meant, and I'm sure none was taken.:)

I lived with a New Yorker for 3 and a half years while in college, and I was educated a lot in this dept., but I have never heard this word before today.

This whole topic is just plain ridiculous. Anyone who has ever been to, or knows anyone from southern Louisiana knows that ******* is not used as a racial slur. More of a term of endearment that folks from that area are proud of. My uncle and his entire family are from Rayne, my cousin married a guy from Hammond, I have friends from Lafayette, Mandeville, New Orleans, Independence and Baton Rouge. Not to mention that one of the best posters on this board, la.lovesorange, is from Slidell. Anyone who think that Saban's comment about the ******* offended the folks in that area would be mistaken. Possibly anything else that Saban has done or said offended them, but not that.

That's what I've been thinking through all of this... that most people from Louisiana consider themselves to be said "derogatory" word. Given that, I don't see the big deal here...
