Bama commits 16 secondary violations the last two years. I guess I shouldn't be shocked. AL.com.

I was only talking about FB. Bama committed more as a hold. Kiffin committed 6 in 1 yr. and got hammered in the media. Saban can do no wrong.

Saban's not using secondary violations to create a "bad boy" image.

Kiffin wanted people to know he was pissing the NCAA off. It was easy attention.

Saban doesn't need it.

Why?

No school, other than the one where the HC made sure it was known, gets any kind of coverage on secondary violations.

Kiffin wanted the coverage, so he got it.

The media should just report the facts and the image thing shouldn't matter. NCAA charged Pearl with a Major for a bump. Saban makes them so much they named the rule after him.

No one gives a rat's ass about secondary violations. If they "reported" on them, it would be a 10 second blip on Sportscenter. Would that make you happy?

That might have something to do with the fact Pearl said it was a 1 or 2 minute accidental bump and the NCAA had video footage of it being around 15 minutes.

And didn't the bump occur a couple of days after he'd given his tearful apology?

I want every school and coach treated the same. The NCAA wanted Pearl(because he lied) so that build a case against him. If secondary violation don't matter they should get rid of them. With Kiffin ESPN ran a crawl at the bottom of the screen for secondary violations. Should be same for all schools and coaches.

That's not going to happen and it never has.

I do not understand why you can't grasp this: Kiffin asked for the attention. ESPN obliged.

The media doesn't report on secondary violations. Kiffin was the exception, not the norm. The media isn't covering up for Saban. The media is doing what they normally do.

So, A bump is a bump. Why should it matter when it happened. So, it's only a rule when your in trouble?

No it isn't.

A one or two minute "accidental" bump is nothing.

Standing there for 10 to 15 minutes talking to the kid is a major violation. There is no way to pass that off as "accidental".

Except it wasn't a "bump". It was more than 10 minutes worth of conversation.

Saban has been accused of exploiting the bump rule, but he's never been accused of running into a kid and then proceeding to hear the kid's life story.

I agree, but Pearl and staff said it was a few seconds( Hubbs)

Pearl also said he was remorseful for his actions just a few days before the bump. Saban isn't walking around looking for attention (See: Kiffin), or walking around passing himself off as some beacon of light and truth (See: Pearl).

I wouldn't exactly characterize it like that. eCLK made one goof after another. His secondary violations were only noteworthy after he snapped back to the visor regarding how well he scored on his ncaa compliance exam. It wasn't until this desperate fan base supported his deplorable antics, that he started claiming it was all about the press.

How does that change the fact Kiffin liked and wanted the attention?

The media doesn't go looking for which school committed secondary violations.

Only that he backed into it and it always made me cringe when people attributed the media genius label to him. You did not do that, however, in your post. I just used your post to make a general point about him.

Nevertheless, regardless of his accidental path, I would agree with you on his final disposition.

Pearl got what he deserved. As far as wanting all schools to be treated the same, I agree, but it will never happen
