Saban contract extension

Do you think Texas would pony up 20 mil a year?

It would take that before Bama would not match it. Might go as high as 25 mil. We do have a lot of cash.

You don't have Texas cash. Last year, Texas' football program had a profit of 63,830,484 bucks. Alabama's football program had a profit of 40,766,391 bucks. Sorry, but Texas just has a whole lot more moolah to pony up for a coach. Don't forget about Jerry Jones as well if the Cowboys miss the playoffs again. Saban is just not loyal anywhere.

I could be wrong but I don't think Saban would go back to the NFL. Not much success there. But then again we are talking about Saban and money talks with him

My point is Saban has no loyality to anywhere so don't think if someone comes calling with larger money and Bama doesn't match it that he won't be gone

I always find that argument very faulty. I'm not saying that Saban has any more affection for Alabama than he had for any other job. But aside from leaving the NFL for Alabama which was solely about him not being good in the NFL, name a single move that Saban has made that wasn't upward. There is no upward move from Alabama, only lateral.

Bama is an upward move because Saban made it that way. I think he enjoys taking teams that are down and making them power houses all the while getting paid for it.

According to Economic reports, last year Alabama ranked #1 in athletic department profit, with just over 31 million. Penn State was next and Texas was down the list a little way, but in the top ten. Tennessee's profit was almost last in the SEC with just over 14 thousand (not million). This was for the 2010-2011 year. Numbers were not available yet for the 2011-2012 year.

If you "Google" College Athletic Department Profits you will get several stories about this.

My totals was football profit, not entire athletic department profit. I saw somewhere Oregon's athletic department brings in 45 million but that's probably because of Phil Knight

I don't know where you are getting your $20 million number that Bama would pony up, but I don't buy it. At some point it simply won't make economic sense. I think the threshold for Texas is higher.

Texas isn't paying off a 100 mil stadium expansion, kind of cut down on our profit margin. And you pointed out we could pay him 15 mil more a year and still be 25 mil a year in the black.

Sure theirs is higher. Where I got it was simply looking at how much money Alabama football brings in.

Did you miss the profit numbers someone else posted?

The two schools that could really throw down some cash are Michigan and Arkansas.

Arkansas could buy or sell any program in the country if their boosters got serious about it.

The extension makes sense. That will leave him 13-0 against Tennessee. Kind of along par with an average season.

Likewise Dooley's next extension will probably set him up to be 7-6 against Vandy. Kind of along par with an average season.
