John Adams brought up a good point in his column today talking about Alabama's bowl victory. "'The dominant performance served as a reminder that Alabama was the most talented team in the country. But where was that talent against LSU, South Carolina or - most significantly - in the second half against Auburn?" So many of us on here believe he's the best coach in college football. Does the best coach lose 3 games with arguably the best talent in college football? If ranking the SEC coaches' performances this year, would you put the likes of Coach Dooley or Joker Phillips ahead of him? Would coaching a .500 team with Kentucky or Tennessee's talent eclipse the coaching performance of a 3 loss season with Alabama's talent. Their year was horrendous in regards to underachieving.
UF and TX didn't have near as much coming back and Bama wasn't replacing an iconic quarterback either. This years team is the most talented in the country, hands down.
OLine wasn't great, QB is serviceable at best and defense was very young. Secondary underperformed. Hightower wasn't as dominant either. They were strong but not enough truly dominant types.Teams that play in the NC usually lose players like that. Doesn't change the fact that Alabama was the most talented team in the country this year.
I doubt it. Nothing about him seems like the kind of guy to stop caring and phone it in. This is the guy who furiously chased down the backup quarterback for something like taking a knee to early in a blowout win. He may seem joyless, or like he doesn't have a soul, but I don't think he's going to start slacking off.which is why i said he may

I honestly thought they would lose a couple games. I do agree they shouldn't have blown it against Auburn. They returned 3 starters on the OL. If they didn't perform, that's on coaching. QB argument doesn't mean much to me. All Saban has had at Bama is a serviceable QB and it's not like he was being thrown to the wolves. He was coming off a solid junior season.
Defense was young. Still, none of this stopped most people from hyping them up as the odds on favorite this year.
Fulmer inherited one of the top programs in the country and was in a conference where Stallings and Spurrier were the only competition for most of that 9 years. Saban inheirted 2 struggling programs. He's a bit overrated. Saban is 91-27 his first 9 years in SEC, but Fulmer was 91-20 his first 9 years. I mean he's been good and lucky, he lost to FL but was still able to get in the NC game in '03 with a loss then last year Florida best defensive player was out for SEC championship and TX lost its QB in the NC game.
He's only overrated because some idiots think he is a football god. However he is without a doubt one of the absolute best. His OC makes some mystifying decisions sometimes. Bama did underperform this year, but that is not always on the coach. Richardson is too bulked up, which I think cost him a lot of agility. Macelroy played to his ability IMO, he performed like what he is, a smart game manager. He never was an elite QB that could be counted on to win games with his talent. Ingram developed Jamallewisitis, played not to ruin his payday. Marcel Darius is either a really good player that didn't play up to his ability, or is overrated. He sure didn't dominate like he was expected too. The OL didn't seem as dominant as last year, but that could also be at least partially attributed to the aforementioned RB decline. The LBs were really good, but I don't think you could say they were great, at least not consistently. The DBs were wildly inconsistent, which seems really wierd because that is supposed to be Sabans specialty from what I understand. However that could also be attributed to youth/inexperience. Anyways I guess what I'm trying to say is this, even the best coaches can have teams that underperform.John Adams brought up a good point in his column today talking about Alabama's bowl victory.
